Desk Job Dangers: Prolonged sitting linked to Gut Issues, Says Gastroenterologist

He further elaborated that prolonged sitting creates “stagnation” in the โgut, which โcan heighten inflammation and contribute to feelings of lethargy during the workday. For those with desk jobs, dr. Ganesan recommends incorporating frequent breaks into the workday. “Avoid โคsitting in one place at the office forโ more โthan 45 minutes. Even short, strategic breaks-like walking around the office or doing stretches-can help. Make a habit of standing up while taking phone calls.”
He also emphasized the importance of adequateโ hydration and a high-fibre โdiet, tho heโค cautioned that fibreโข alone โisn’t a solution.โค “Drinking water โregularly helps, as dehydration also slowsโข down bowel movements and is โคa โคcommon cause โof constipation. Many people turnโ to high-fibre diets โขto keep their intestines moving, but fibre alone can’t replace movement.”
If bloatingโค occurs during work hours, dr. Ganesan advises simple movement like stretching or standing during calls to stimulate gut motility.
