Family of Greg Lynn‘s First Wife Reveals High Country Killer’s Abusive Past
For decades, the family of Lisa Lynn, the first wife of convicted High Country killer Greg Lynn, remained silent, shielding her sons from the details surrounding her death and a history of abuse. Now, they are breaking that silence, sharing harrowing details of Lynn’s controlling and violent behavior in an effort to reveal the full scope of his character and the trauma inflicted upon Lisa and her children.
The family’s decision to speak out comes as their story is revisited in the ABC podcast Huntsman Unravel, prompting a re-examination of the events leading up to Lisa Lynn’s death in 1993 and the subsequent inquiry. Kim and David Searle, Lisa’s mother and stepfather, say they felt compelled to protect her sons by keeping the extent of the abuse private for years, but now believe a complete understanding of the past is crucial for their healing and for the public to fully grasp the gravity of Lynn’s crimes.
“I want them to know their mother was a beautiful person, a woman of courage and truth with admirable qualities, who loved them as much as any mother could love their children,” Kim Searle says. “They have to know what she went through to protect them as little kids.”
Lisa and Greg Lynn married in 1985 and had two sons. According to the Searles, the relationship quickly deteriorated as Greg Lynn exhibited increasingly controlling and abusive behaviour. This included isolating Lisa from her family and friends, financial control, and escalating verbal and physical abuse.
“It was a pattern of control,” David Searle explained. “He wanted to dictate every aspect of her life.”
the abuse culminated in Lisa’s death on February 22, 1993. While initially ruled a suicide, the case was reopened in 2011 following advances in forensic science and inconsistencies in the original investigation. Greg Lynn was ultimately convicted in 2018 of Lisa’s murder, after evidence revealed she had been drugged and drowned in a bathtub.
The family’s revelations paint a disturbing picture of a man capable of manipulating and inflicting profound harm. They hope that by sharing their story, they can prevent others from experiencing similar abuse and ensure that Lisa Lynn’s memory is honoured as a victim of domestic violence and murder.
“After all of these years, Kim Searle says, the family needs to know exactly what happened on the night her daughter died.”
