Former Czech hockey star Jaromír Šlégr is actively working to find a solution for the struggling HC Litvínov, but clarified he has no desire to return as the team’s coach. Šlégr stated a deadline of the end of November was set for potential interventions, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
The future of HC Litvínov is in jeopardy as the team currently faces significant challenges reflected in their position in the league standings. Šlégr, a Litvínov native and former player, feels a deep personal connection to the club and its fanbase, and is dedicated to preventing further decline. He acknowledged the distress within the community, stating, “It hurts me terribly.I can see that people are unhappy about it. We are a small town with a huge tradition.”
Despite his commitment, Šlégr explicitly ruled out taking on the coaching role himself. He is focused on facilitating a resolution, and is involved in ongoing discussions. “I am an eternal optimist and a Litvínov at heart. I will fight until the last moment and I will not give up,” Šlégr said. He added he is hesitant to publicly disclose details prematurely, fearing it could jeopardize ongoing efforts.
Šlégr also commented on the team’s recent performance, noting improvements in their last three games, including a competitive showing against Sparta Prague, which he attended in person. He urged the players to remain united and persevere, stating, “They have to stick together, fight and not give up.” He also suggested Hynek could benefit from a role on the substitute team.
