TŘINEC – The hockey players of Třinec will have to do without striker Libor Hudáček in the first three games of the extraleague playoff final against Hradec Králové.

The disciplinary commission of the competition additionally suspended his activity for a foul on Lukáš Sedlák from Pardubice in the seventh semi-final meeting. The Association of Professional Ice Hockey Clubs announced this on its official Twitter account.

The 32-year-old Slovakian representative attacked Sedlák in the 39th minute and was only given a two-minute penalty for assault by referees Antonín Jeřábek and Daniel Pražák. The chairman of the disciplinary commission, Viktor Ujčík, stopped his activity today.

Steelers defeated Dynamo 2:1 in the decisive seventh semifinal and advanced to the final for the fifth time in a row. The fight for the Masaryk Cup will start on Tuesday in Hradec Králové, Hudáček can return to the Třinac lineup in the fourth final meeting on Sunday, April 23.

Hořav Disapproves of the Game Format Used in Czech Playoffs – Sport.cz

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com March 20, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

“That’s the way it is, and we’re not going to do anything about it now. But I would prefer if it was played every day, as it is now everywhere in the world. It would be better for all participating teams in the playoffs,” said Hořava immediately after the first quarterfinal match with Třinec.

He and his counterpart Zdenek Moták immediately started a discussion about the advantages and pitfalls of the ‘match-free-match’ system. “On Sunday, Sparta started at two in the afternoon, which is cool. If we were returning home after him, we would arrive around midnight and sleep would not be a problem,” Moták said.

The problem is that such an early start of the match is an exception in the elimination battles. It usually starts at 17 or 19 hours. “And playing from seven would be a problem with the mentioned format. You arrive in Třinec from Prague the next morning, you haven’t slept and you’re already handicapped. Transporting the team without sleep and preparing it for the match the next day is not easy,” points out the head of the Steelers’ substitution.

“However, the conditions would be the same for all teams. It always turns around during the series,” Hořava reminds us that in Sweden, Finland and Switzerland, home matches are regularly alternated with away matches.

He also does not like the two-week break before the quarter-finals for the teams that avoided the preliminary round. “That’s an awfully long time. It is disadvantageous, game practice is logically missing after returning to matches. A week off would be just right for me,” says Hořava.

He didn’t think about the end of Vrána’s career. It hurt him more to watch Třinec’s suffering. That team was used to winning, he says

“It was frustrating to wait so long. But there are things that one cannot rush. I’m not the youngest anymore, so I was more careful. I couldn’t train or go on the ice for a long time with the injury, but it looks good,” confided the 37-year-old captain from Třinec, who started in the third attack between Vladimír Dravecký and Aron Chmielewský.

In Litvínov, Vrána scored one shot and was sent off for fouling. And he admitted that he was a little worried about the operated arm. “I would be lying if I said otherwise. Training is one thing, but nobody spares you in a match. I have to knock, the hand was holding, it wasn’t painful even during the hits,” Vrána described.

Thoughts about the end of the hockey player’s career with NHL experience in the New Jersey Devils team did not occur during the long recovery. “No, no, not at all! I don’t know what would have to happen to make it worthless. I was looking forward to the hand being fine, I will play again,” Vrána confided.

The team’s discomfort bothered him more than injuries as the season progressed. “It’s frustrating to watch a team that doesn’t do well. You can see it in the boys. The team was used to winning. But not all of our games were downright bad. I noticed that we also lost a lot of games at the end, in the last minutes. And those are the moments that decide,” he pointed out.

Even at thirty-seven, Vrána felt slight nervousness after a long break. “She was there a little bit. I haven’t played in a long time, so I didn’t really know what to expect. However, I am disappointed after the match, we played it well, but we lost the lead due to unnecessary fouls and lapses. We’re happy for at least that point, but it’s a shame,” explained Vrána after Třinec’s fourth defeat in a row.

In Litvínov, however, the guests got off to a great start and in the 3rd minute were leading 2:0 after goals from Nestrasil and Hudáček. But they lost the match in overtime. “We have periods when we don’t play the hockey we want, but the season doesn’t end. We don’t play for the whole sixty minutes, we prepare ourselves for points with our own game. We still have matches ahead of us in which we can work on our game and prepare for the playoffs,” reflected the native of Šternber.

And in it, the team wants to take it as far as possible again. “No one could have expected me to come back and start winning. Although that would be nice. It’s up to us how we put it together. I will try to get into the game and be ready for the peak of the season,” said Vrána.

In his current position outside the top (Třinec fell to 6th place with the defeat in Litvínov), he tried to find a positive. “Maybe we don’t get talked about as much now. Everyone can see how much Pardubice invested in the season. Sparta and Vítkovice also found great players. It will certainly be interesting, the playoff will have new favorites, a different charge, but nothing changes for us. We still want the same thing,” outlined the captain of the three-time champions from the last three completed seasons.

Třinec was struck by curiosity. I don’t understand the goal off the top of my head, Moták lamented

The White Tigers were able to equalize with a curious goal and finally grab two important points. “We were in the lead, but unfortunately a shot from outside the goal hit our defender in the head and the puck bounced into the goal,” lamented the top scorer of the competition, Daňo.

How exactly did the goal fall at 2:2? “I didn’t even see it, I just closed my eyes and saw the puck in the goal,” laughed Liberec defender Richard Nedomlel. It was he who shot the puck at the goal from the blue in the 51st minute. He hit the kneeling Lukáš Kaňák, and the puck from his helmet sailed behind Kacetl’s back. “He fell with luck, but that’s what’s needed. When you’re losing, you have to push and shoot. But it already started with Jarda Vlach’s excellent tackle, which kept the players on their backs,” commented home coach Patrik Augusta.

“We’ll get the second goal from the head, I don’t understand,” Třinec coach Zdeněk Moták shook his head. “We made mistakes. There weren’t many of them, but unfortunately we were punished for them. Both in the first period, in the third and also in overtime. From our side, however, I saw maximum combativeness, commitment, dedication, everything was there. I just missed converting chances,” added Moták.

“They were lucky. Of course, we also had some with our goals, but we played it well, and we are very sorry that we got one point,” regretted Daňo, who shot in the middle part.

In its first minute, he tied the game at 1:1, and in the eighth score, he also turned the ball around with a lucky shot, when he hit the post and the puck rolled from Kváč’s back to the goal line. “Unfortunately, the puck hit me badly from behind and bounced back into the goal. A goal from the unlucky category, but they just fall like that. I hope that I choose this now and it won’t happen to me again in the playoffs,” commented North Bohemian goalkeeper Petr Kváča.

Due to another loss, Třinec dropped out of the elite quartet, from which they were kicked out by the hot Hradec Králové. “We can fix that on Friday and I believe we will do everything to get back there and fight for where we want to be and where I think we belong. After that, we will continue to have it in our own hands,” believed Daňo. In two days, his team is waiting on the home ice of Mountfield in Hradec Králové.
