HONOLULU, HIโฃ – Hawai’i public school studentsโค demonstrated improvements in academic proficiency, attendance, and post-graduation enrollment in the 2024-25 school year, according to data released this week by the Hawai’i State Department of Education. The findings signal a continuing recovery from pandemic-era learningโ disruptions, though important disparities remain โacross schools and subject areas.
The data,tracked through the Strive HI performance system,reveals statewide gains in language arts,math,and science,alongside increases in regular attendance and on-time graduation rates. Maui School Performance Highlights:
* H.P. Baldwin High School: In 2024-25, Baldwin students achieved 50% proficiency in language arts (state average: 53%), 18% in math (state: 41%), and 24% in science (state: โฃ43%). Attendanceโค stood at 68%โค meeting the regular-attendanceโข threshold (statewide: โข76%), with aโฃ 78% on-time graduation rate (state: 86%).45% of the Class of 2024 enrolled in โฃpostsecondaryโค education (state: 53%).
* Maui High โSchool: language arts proficiency at Maui High wasโค a strong point, reaching 65%, exceeding the state โคaverage. Science proficiency was 38%, and attendance improved to โข72%. The Class of 2025’s preliminary graduation rate is 84%, the best result since the pandemic. Math proficiency remained at 22% (state: 41%), and postsecondary enrollment for the class of 2024 โwas 49%, below the statewide average.
