Nakedโข Man Armed with Knife Breaks โInto Hilo Home, Faces Multiple Felony Charges
Hilo, HI – A man โwielding a knife broke into a home in Hilo, Hawaii, on Monday,โ exposing himself toโ theโค occupants -โค a woman and an 8-year-old girl – before being apprehendedโ by police. The suspect, identified as Davidโฃ Snarski, now faces a slew of felony charges including first-degree burglary, and is being held on $113,000โ bail.
The incident underscores growing concerns about violent crime on the island and raises questions about publicโฃ safety, particularly regarding vulnerable individuals. Snarski’s alleged actions have prompted a court-ordered mental examination and a December 9th return date to Hilo District Court. He already has two open criminal cases, signaling a pattern of concerning behaviorโฃ and potential riskโค to the community.
According to a police complaint, Snarski allegedly forced his way into the residence while naked and brandishing โa knife. He then exposed himself to the two victims, the nature of their acquaintance to Snarski remains unknown. Following his arrest Monday, โSnarski was formally charged Tuesday โwith first-degree burglary, first-degree terroristic threatening, attempted second-degree assault, fourth-degree sex โassault, and habitual property crime.
First-degree burglary, a Class B felony, carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment. The charges of first-degree terroristic threatening,attempted second-degree assault,and habitual property crime are all Class Cโ felonies,each punishable by a maximum of five years in prison. The misdemeanor sexโข assault charge stems from the alleged indecent โexposure.
Snarski’sโ criminal history includes an active 2023 case for first-degree terroristic threatening in hilo โขCircuit Court. He is also facing charges in a separate 2024โค case involving first-degree unauthorized entry to a dwelling – โanother Class โขB felonyโ – โand fourth-degree property damage, a petty misdemeanor.
Hilo District Judge Kanani laubach maintained Snarski’s โ$113,000 bail during his โคinitial court โขappearance โWednesday and ordered him to reappear on December 9th.
