Hamas Members, Released in Prisoner Exchange, Staying at Egyptian Resort Hotel
Recent reports indicate thatโ Hamas โmembers, previously sentencedโฃ to life imprisonment and released as partโค of a prisoner exchange with Israel, are โcurrently residing at a Marriott-operated resortโ hotel in โคEgypt. The Dailyโค Mail first reported the information, and โt-online.de has corroborated aspects of it.
Theseโ individuals were not returned toโข the Palestinian territoriesโค following theirโฃ release. Instead, they were transported to Egypt. Israeli authorities reportedly consider this group to be particularly high-risk from a security outlook, though the exact number of individuals, their identities, and legal โstatus remain unconfirmed.
The Daily Mail reports a visible security โpresence around the hotel, identifying โฃthe personnel as members of Egyptian secret police. These armed officers patrol entrances and exterior โขareas, and reportedly control exits from the โhotel grounds.
While the Hamas members are reportedlyโฃ permitted โขto move freely within the hotel, and have occasionally left for private eventsโค or public appearances, it โคis unclearโ whether these departures are governed by specific conditions or are decided on a โcase-by-case basis. Guests and staff haveโ not been informed โof the situation, and no โฃadditionalโ protective measures appear to be in โplace for other hotel patrons.
Individuals named in the reports include:
* Mahmoud Issa, 57: Allegedly the founder of Hamas’ “Special Unit 101,” which specialized in kidnapping Israeli soldiers.
* Izz a-Dinโ al-Hamamrah, 47: Accused of recruiting โฃsuicide โbombers and planning โคattacks, including potential plane hijackings.
* Samir Abuโ Nima, 64: Arrested in 1983 โฃandโฃ accused of involvementโ in a โคbusโ bombingโข in Jerusalem that resulted in six deaths, including an eleven-year-old โchild.
*โฃ Muhammadโ Zawahra, 52: โข Allegedly โฃinvolved in ambushes of Israeli soldiers.
* Ismail Hamdan, 57: Creditedโข with kidnapping several civilians.
* Yousuf Dawud, 39: Allegedly involved in the murder of Israeli civilians.
The hotel โขfeatures โขamenities โขsuchโ asโ restaurants, a spa, an outdoor pool,โ and gardens. Reports โindicate instances of former prisoners and Western tourists sharing common areas, such as the breakfast buffet and โpool. โคMeetings with relatives and supporters haveโค also been observed.
The cost of accommodation, approximately 230 โคeuros per night,โ and who is โขresponsible for covering these expenses remains unknown.
