Wilmington,โฃ NC – Demonstrations are planned โคacrossโ Wilmington โฃand surrounding areas on October 18th asโ part of the national “No โฃKings” movement, a day of action organized โคin response to policies enacted duringโ the Trumpโ governance. Marches will beginโข concurrently from three downtown Wilmingtonโ locations: 1898 Memorial โขParkโข (1018 N.โ Thirdโ St.),โข castle Street โbetween โขFourth Street and Fifth Avenue, and the Altonโ Lennon Federal Building (2 Princess St.).โข All marches willโ converge at Innes โPark โ(102 N. third St.) for a noon rally.
Organizers,โฃ including Indivisible wilmington and Immigrant Allies Forum, โstate the rallies are intended toโ oppose what they describe as authoritarianism, attacks on civil rights, and mass detention and deportation policies. The movement specifically cites concerns over the administration’s treatmentโข of immigrant families and the โขdeployment โคof federal forces to American cities.
Additional “no Kings” protests are scheduled for the Wilmington area in Shallotte (10:30 a.m.-noon at Smith Avenue & Main Street) and Surf Cityโ (9 โขa.m.-noon at the Surf City Bridge).
According to the movement’s website, “The president thinks his โrule isโค absolute. But โin America, โฃwe โคdon’t have kings and we won’tโค back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.”
