Hamas โSignals Readiness โfor Ceasefire, Demands Immediateโฃ Prisoner Exchange inโ Egyptโค Talks
Cairo, Egypt – October 5, 2025 – Hamas โofficials have expressed a strong desire to reach an agreement to end the ongoing conflict โฃwith Israel and are prioritizing an โimmediate exchange โofโ prisoners as negotiations resume in Egypt this weekend. Representatives from Hamas and israel are setโ to participate in indirect talksโฃ in Egypt onโฃ Sunday and Monday, facilitatedโฃ by mediators, to finalize details โof a potential ceasefire.
The โฃnegotiationsโ come after Hamas approved โa peace plan proposed by former โฃUS President Donald Trump. A senior Hamas official, speaking โanonymously due to not being authorized to discuss the matter publicly, stated, “Hamas really wants toโข reach anโค agreement โto end the war and promptly start the process of exchanging prisoners in accordance with field conditions.”
The โHamas delegation departed from โDoha and is expected โto arrive in Cairo on Sunday before proceeding to Sharm โEl-Sheikhโค for the negotiations. According to a Palestinian source close to Hamas, the delegations will beโฃ housed in the same building but โคshielded โคfrom media access.
A key focus of โขthe talksโ willโค be โฃestablishing a timeline and logistical framework for the release of prisoners heldโค by both โsides. Hamas is seeking the โฃrelease of โapproximatelyโข 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, and also over 1,700 Palestinians arrested from the Gaza โStrip following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on โIsrael โ- the event that โขtriggered the current conflict. In return, โHamas is expected toโ present a listโข of Israeliโข prisoners held in Gaza.
The Hamas official emphasized thatโฃ Israel must demonstrate a “sincere intention”โ to implementโข the โTrump โคplan, adding,โ “ifโ the occupation hasโ aโ sincere intention toโข reach an agreement, Hamas โis ready.”
Beyond prisoner exchange logistics, Hamas is demanding a complete cessation of โIsraeli military operations throughout the Gaza Strip, including a halt โขtoโค all โair โขactivity, reconnaissance missions, and drone surveillance, as well as a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from within theโข city of Gaza. In response, Hamas and other resistance โfactionsโ have pledged to cease their own military actions.
Negotiators are also โขexpected to discuss โฃa mapโค detailing the phased withdrawal of Israeli troops, synchronized withโ theโข prisoner exchange process.
This round of โnegotiations represents a significant step towards potentially ending the nearly โtwo-year-long conflict, but the success ofโ the talks hinges on both sides’ willingness โคto โcompromise and adhere to the terms of the proposed peace plan.
