Suspiciousโฃ USB Sticks Prompt Security Alert at German Parliament
Berlin – German parliamentary group offices received unsolicited packages containing USB sticks andโฃ a letter in โฃEnglish this week, triggering a security โฃalert andโค a warning from the โคBundestag police. Authorities have instructed MPs under no circumstances toโ connect the devices to computers, โขbut to instead submit themโ in โseparateโ envelopes forโ investigation.
The Christian Democratic Union โฃ(CDU) confirmed its members receivedโ the packages. “There are MPsโค who have โreceived this stick.โฃ We are not โคawareโ that anyone has connected it.We have consistently received feedback that it was destroyed or โคjust sent as instructed,” a CDU โparliamentary group spokesmanโ told WELT.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD) is โฃalso โtaking the matter seriously. “We are certainly concerned about theโค process, all MPs and employeesโ of โthe parliamentary group have been informed and sensitized,” stated SPD security officerโ Marja-Lisaโ Vรถllers. โข”The investigationsโข initiated by โคthe Bundestag management will show everything else.”
The Option for Germany (AfD) reported that several ofโ its MPs received the packages, with the exact number still unknown. Accordingโค to an AfD spokesman, the USB sticks in “known cases” โฃhave beenโฃ handed over to the Bundestag police. โ
Asโ of November 14, 2025, โat 2:16 p.m., โThe โLeft parliamentary group reported it had not received any such packages. โคThe Green Party did not respond to a queryโ from WELT regarding the incident.
The Bundestag administrationโ has yet to respond to requests for comment. The contentsโข ofโค the USB โsticks and the letter remain unknown as โof Friday afternoon.
