Techie Allegedly Assaults Mother-in-Law in Ghaziabad
Video sparks outrage after delayed police response.
A shocking video has surfaced showing a software engineer in Ghaziabad, India, allegedly attacking her mother-in-law. The incident has ignited public outrage, compounded by allegations of delayed police action.
Details of the Alleged Assault
The accused, identified as Aakansha, is seen in the viral video allegedly pushing the elderly woman to the ground and dragging her towards a staircase in their Govindpuram home in the Kavinagar area. According to Aakansha’s father-in-law, she also allegedly threatened him with a knife; he reportedly escaped by locking himself in a room. He claims Aakanksha frequently threatened the family, allegedly misusing her father’s position as a police inspector. He added that his son lives away from home for work.
CCTV footage reportedly shows Aakanksha slapping, dragging, and kicking the elderly woman while hurling verbal abuse. Notably, Aakanksha’s mother was present during the alleged assault but did not intervene, according to reports.
Delayed Police Response Sparks Concern
The family claims the incident occurred on July 1st, yet authorities allegedly did not file a First Information Report (FIR) until July 7th. The in-laws allege they pleaded with officials for six days to register a complaint. According to a 2023 study, delays in registering FIRs are a persistent problem in India, often due to police reluctance or bureaucratic hurdles (The Hindu).
Bhaskar Verma, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kavinagar, confirmed that the FIR was filed on July 7th. Based on the complaint, police have booked Aakanksha and her mother in the assault case.
Investigation Underway
SHO Yogendra Malik is currently investigating the case, and legal proceedings are reportedly underway based on available evidence. The victim’s son, who is also a software engineer, lives and works in Gurugram and rarely visits, leaving Aakanksha to work remotely from home.
