RIYADH – โThe Joint Defense Council of โขthe Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) convened an emergency meeting and issued five decisions aimed at strengthening regional security followingโ a recent attack โon โขDoha, Qatar. The โCouncil condemned the attack as a disruption to Qatar’s diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire in the โขGaza Strip andโค the release of hostagesโค and detainees. This โmove โsignalsโฃ a unified front among GCC โnations, reaffirming โขthe principle of collective security โคas outlined in their joint defense agreement.
The heightened tensions and the evolving security landscape prompted โฃthe Council to accelerate defense integrationโข initiatives. These decisions โrepresent a notable step towards a more coordinatedโ and robust defense posture forโ the โGCC, impacting โขthe stabilityโ ofโ the regionโ and the safety of its member states.The immediate focus will be on enhanced intelligence sharing, improved early warningโฃ systems, andโ joint military exercises.
Among โthe key โคdecisions, the council approved โan increase in the โขexchange of intelligence data through the โunified military leadership,โค alongside efforts to shareโ airspace imagery from operating centers across member states. Work will be expedited on a Gulf joint work team dedicated to an โคearly warning system against ballisticโ missiles,with existing โjoint defense plans toโ be updated โขin coordination between the unified military leadership andโ the Operations โand Training Committee.
Furtherโ solidifying this commitment, the Council mandated the implementation of joint exercisesโค between air operations and air defense โคcenters within the next three months, to be followed by a comprehensive, live-fire air exercise.
