Paris Saint-Germain forward ousmane Dembele has openedโฃ up about the challenges he faced during his six years at Barcelona, acknowledging a challengingโ period marked โby recurring injuries but ultimately expressing contentment with his time at the club.
Dembele, who joined PSG this summer, made 185 competitive โคappearances for Barcelona despite frequently being sidelined. He admitted injuries significantly hindered his โคprogress, stating, “I wasn’tโข lucky for threeโ or โขfour years as of injuries. When I was able to play, I had to adapt,โ and when I couldn’t, I hadโฃ to stay strong, but I was doing what I love, and I was at my dream โฃclub, Barcelona. โขIt wasn’t easy, but after three or four years, things got much better.”
The France international explained that his injury struggles โคprompted a shiftโ in his approach to trainingโ and self-care. “Because I โarrived at Barcelona with only a year and a half as โฃa professional, I didn’t goโ to the gym much, but instead wentโ straight to the pitch with a lot of energy and some โtalent too,” โคhe said. “After one injury, two, three, four, you realizeโข that you have to take โcare ofโ yourโ body, and that football โขat the highest โlevel requires more than justโ talent.”
Despiteโ the difficulties, Dembeleโ harbors no regrets about his time with the Catalan giants. He emphasizedโ the personalโ growth โhe experienced, saying, “I am happy with โeverything that happened in Barcelona, because it โคis โthe place where I matured as a person,โ both on and โoff theโ field.โ I โalso made many friends there and still keep in touch โwith them. Therefore, it was an exceptional period for me, and above all, it was a time of learning.”
DembeleS reflections come as PSG prepares for a Champions League clash against Barcelonaโฃ in early October, a fixture complicated by a recent injury theโ playerโ sustained while on international duty with Ukraine.
