Pramono Anung: JIS Connects with Locals & Future Jakarta Development Plans

by Emma Walker – News Editor March 1, 2026

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo on Sunday, March 1, 2026, attended the JIS Ramadan Fest 2026 at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in North Jakarta, stating his belief that the stadium represents more than just a sporting venue, but the future of the city.

During the event, Governor Anung engaged with local residents and toured stalls operated by little and medium-sized enterprises (UMKM), also observing a subsidized basic necessities program. “Specifically, I would like to express my appreciation to JakPro for organizing this event,” Anung said, according to a statement released by the Jakarta provincial government. “This demonstrates that JIS, despite being an international-standard stadium, maintains a close relationship with the community surrounding it.”

Anung emphasized the strategic location of JIS, noting its proximity to the Ancol family entertainment center and the economic activity of the Tanjung Priok Port. He stated that connecting JIS to Ancol is a priority for his administration, citing traffic congestion as a major challenge during large events. “I am convinced that the future of Jakarta is here,” he said, referring to the JIS complex. “That’s why the Jakarta Provincial Government, through PT Jakpro, is connecting the stadium to the Ancol area through the construction of the Ancol Pedestrian Bridge.”

The governor explained that the pedestrian bridge is intended to alleviate parking issues, allowing event attendees to park in Ancol’s extensive parking facilities, which can accommodate tens of thousands of vehicles. He also highlighted plans for a dedicated Commuter Line Indonesia (KRL) station beneath the stadium, connecting it to other stations throughout the city. “This will be a solution to the congestion that often occurs when there is an event at this stadium,” Anung stated.

Anung also expressed his desire for JIS to become a community space, suggesting the creation of a jogging track and other facilities accessible to residents of North Jakarta, similar to those available at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex. He noted the strong public interest in utilizing the JIS area for recreational activities, having observed this firsthand during a recent visit. “I have repeatedly told the President Director [of Jakpro] that the facilities, if possible, such as a jogging track or whatever, can be used by the community in North Jakarta to exercise,” he said.

Jakarta Floods: Heavy Rain & Water from Tangerang Selatan Cited as Causes

by Emma Walker – News Editor February 20, 2026
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Heavy rainfall and water flowing from Tangerang Selatan (Tangsel) are contributing to widespread flooding across Jakarta, Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated Friday. The flooding has impacted at least 127 RTs (Resident Units) and six major roadways as of 6:00 PM local time, according to the Jakarta Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

“The current situation in Jakarta is due to high rainfall, particularly in the areas of Tangerang and Tangerang Selatan, where water is beginning to flow into Jakarta,” Governor Anung told reporters in Jakarta Selatan. He confirmed communication with the Head of the Water Resources Department regarding the escalating situation.

Water levels have reached as high as 1.5 meters in some areas, prompting the Jakarta provincial government to deploy water pumps to mitigate the flooding. Governor Anung expressed optimism that the water levels would recede quickly, noting that the sea is not currently experiencing tidal surges (“rob”).

The BPBD Jakarta reported that Jakarta Selatan is the most heavily affected area, with varying water depths ranging from 30 to 125 centimeters. Agency officials are coordinating with local Dinas (departments) for Water Resources, Public Works, and Fire and Rescue to clear drainage systems and provide essential supplies to affected residents.

According to Antara News, rainfall in Tangerang Selatan exceeded 200 millimeters, significantly contributing to the influx of water into Jakarta. Governor Anung indicated that the provincial government is prepared to implement weather modification operations (OMC) if rainfall exceeds this threshold, based on data received from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Governor Anung also stated that the Jakarta provincial government is collaborating with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to potentially extend weather modification efforts to surrounding areas. The Governor did not specify a timeline for potential OMC deployment.
