Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Embark onโข 100-Mile relay to Deliver Game Ball to Austin
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (November 28,โ 2024) – In a revival of a decades-old tradition, approximatelyโ 80 members of the Texas โฃA&Mโ Corps of Cadets began a โ100-mile relay โคrun โขon Thanksgiving Day โto deliver the game โball for tomorrow’s Lone Star Showdown against the University of โคtexas. The cadets departed โฃfrom a lot near Kyle Field at 7:30 p.m., escortedโฃ byโข police, with a planned โฃarrival in Austin by 11 a.m. Friday.
The relay will โculminate with a โmarch alongside the โคFightin’โข Texas Aggie Band intoโฃ Austin, completing the deliveryโ of the ballโค ahead of the 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
“the goal of โthis isโ to be โขable toโฃ inspireโข the next generation of Aggies and to be able to โencourage the entire campus,” explained Carson Seiber, a senior member of the Corps andโ event coordinator. “The entire Aggie network is brought together because we, as the Corps, were โคinspiring and โhelping โขour Aggie team,โ the football team,โ as they get ready to take on Texas.”
Seiber, who envisioned โthis eventโค since learningโ of the matchup during his freshman year,โ spearheaded โthe effort to reinstate the tradition, which hasn’tโฃ been observed for over two decades. “I had โฃthis dream, and I kind of talked to people, and now that it’s my senior year,I really hadโ anโ idea about why not โฃbring theโข tradition back, why not kind of leave a mark, leave โขa legacy on the Corp and Texas A&Mโ that hasn’t really happened inโ a long time,”โ he said.
The plan โคwas pitched twoโข months ago and finalized within the last week. Seiber emphasized the importance of Texas A&M’s core values in โfostering this spirit of unity.
“I think it’s been really cool to see the fact that when the Aggies are successful, we โคsee our Aggies support each other, butโข also โฃin โtimes when โฃour Aggies have โnot been good at football or tragedies like Bonfire, our Aggies are there in victory or defeat,” Seiber added.
