Tragedy Strikes as Woman Finds โHusband โคLifeless days Before Honeymoon
EDINBURGH,SCOTLAND – A Scottish woman’s dream ofโฃ aโข honeymoon โturned to devastatingโค grief when she discovered her husband unresponsive โon their sofa just days before their planned trip.Iain Murray, the husband ofโ Mrs. Murray, tragically died from a heart condition, leaving his wife and family heartbroken.
Mrs. Murray โrecountedโข the harrowing experience, stating: “I started screaming, but I knew he was gone. I called an ambulance and I didโ CPR for about six minutes, even though โit felt like much longer, then paramedics arrived and worked on himโ for about 45 minutes, but there was nothing.”
Following the loss, โฃMrs. Murrayโ moved in withโ her late husband’s parents, Sharon and Fraser, finding solace in their shared bereavement. The family has embraced open โฃdialog and support during their grieving process. “We’re not a family that โhides the fact that we are grieving,we wear it,and โคwe own it. We cry, we talk, โwe areโ open and honest. Ifโข someone is having โขa bad day,weโฃ all rally round that person,” she explained.
driven by her โgrief and a desireโ to honor Iain’s memory,Mrs.โฃ Murray recently completed the โข21-mile Kiltwalk in โคEdinburgh to raise funds for โthe British Heart Foundation (BHF). She alsoโ shared her personal struggle withโ unhealthyโข coping mechanisms following theโ tragedy. “I was drinking too much, eating too much, and โthen I realised I also don’t want โคto die young,” she confessed. “So, โI’m trying my best โto look after myself. Theโ bad days are less โฃoften now. It is still devastating and when I do think about it โtoo โขmuch it โphysically hurts, but thoseโข days areโฃ getting less.”
Mrs. Murray hopes her โคefforts will raise awareness about heart health โand potentially save lives. “We โขcouldn’t save Iain, but we can maybe spread awareness about heart health and help otherโ people to have better lives.”
The tragedy underscores the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in the UK. According to BHF research, someoneโ succumbs toโ cardiovascular diseaseโข every three minutes. David McColgan, head of BHF Scotland, highlighted theโ severity ofโ the situation, stating, “The sad reality โขis โthatโค each week, around 350 families in scotland will lose a loved โขoneโ to cardiovascular conditions like a โฃheartโค attack and stroke.”
McColganโค furtherโข noted โคa concerning trend, adding, “We have seen record โhigh numbers โaffected by heart diseases and cardiovascular risk factors in Scotland as theโค start of the decade,โฃ and cardiovascular deathsโ in โ2023 were at their highest โsince 2008.” The BHF remains committed to funding research and initiatives aimed at improvingโ heartโฃ health and extending lives. “We are determined to give peopleโ more time with their loved ones โby โฃpowering an era of immense scientific possibility to give people healthierโ hearts, for longer.”
