GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – โ A Greenville mother is scheduled to appear in courtโ this afternoon following her arrestโค in Philadelphiaโค last month in connection to theโ November death of her โ6-year-old son.
Saunsiree Jefferson, 25, was taken into custody and returned to Pitt โCounty to face charges of felony negligent child abuse resultingโข in serious bodily โinjury and involuntary manslaughter.Greenville Police began searching forโข Jefferson last year after responding to โa suspiciousโข death report at the Knights Inn located at 3435 S. Memorial Drive.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the childโข deceased in a motel โฃroom whereโ his family resided inโ reportedly unsanitary conditions. An autopsy later revealed the boy hadโ been โคsuffering fromโ leukemia, and investigatorsโ determined a lackโค ofโ medical care significantly contributed to his death.
Theโ child’s father, 27-year-old โขTimothy Curry, was arrested in May by theโ Charlotte-Mecklenburg Policeโค Department and faces identical charges. Curry’s arraignment is scheduled for October.
Jefferson โis being held on โa $500,000 โฃbond and will make her initial court appearance at the Pitt County Courthouse at 1:30โ p.m. today.
