Canada Post โขCelebrates Graphic Novelistsโ withโฃ New Stamp Series
OTTAWA – Canada Post has โunveiled a new seriesโค of postage stamps honouring six acclaimed Canadian โgraphic โnovelists: Michael Nicollโ Yahgulanaas, Kate Beaton, Jimmy Beaulieu, Guy Delisle, Julie Doucet, andโฃ Brian Lee O’Malley. The stamps recognize the growing importance of graphic novels as a literary โคart form andโฃ celebrate theโข unique contributions of these artists to Canadian culture.
This โinitiative arrives as โgraphic novels gain โincreasing recognition for their ability to tackle complex themes and โreach diverse audiences.โ The stamps aim to elevate the profile of thisโ medium and acknowledge the artists who are โpushing creative boundaries. The series is expected to appeal to both โcollectors and fans of graphic literature,further solidifying the art form’s โคplace within Canada’s artistic landscape.
Yahgulanaas, a โHaida artist, is recognizedโ for his innovative blend of Haida artโ and storytelling, particularly his work red: A Haida Spirit Bear Story.Kate Beaton is bestโ known โขfor her autobiographical graphicโ novel Ducks: Two Yearsโ in the Oil Sands, which won the 2023 CBC Reads competition-the first graphic novel to โachieve this honor.
Montreal-based Jimmy Beaulieu has authored numerous โbooks,โ including Jardin des complexes, Rรดles โคde composition, and Non-aventures : planches ร la premiรจre personne. Guyโค Delisle โshares his โtravelโข experiences through cartoons, with his award-winning Chroniques de Jรฉrusalem documenting his โtime in the Middle East, alongside visits to North Korea and myanmar.
Julie Doucet,author of โข Journal (2004; 365 Days,2007),received the Grand Prix for lifetime achievement atโ the โAngoulรชme International Comics Festival. Brian Lee O’Malley โis the creator of the Scott Pilgrim โ graphicโค novels, which followโข a Torontoโค garage band slacker โand haveโฃ been adapted into a film, video game, โand animation series.
