New york, NY – Five individuals haveโ been indicted โin connection with teh death of Leandro De Niroโ Rodriguez, the โ19-year-old grandson of actor โRobert De Niro,โ who died last July from an accidental overdose. Court documents obtained by โthe Daily Mail โขdetailโ a drug โฃsupply chain โขallegedly responsible for providing the fentanyl-laced pills that led to โRodriguez’s death, as well as the overdose of atโ least one other victim.the arrests mark a โimportant โdevelopment in the investigation into the proliferationโ ofโ illicit fentanyl inโข New York City.
The indictment alleges that Rodriguez,โข identified as “Victimโ #3,” obtained fentanyl โand Xanax mixture pills from โa woman known as “CC-1,” โwho in turn sourced them from alleged dealers michael Epperson and Rohan Barrett. According to court documents, CC-1 sold the pills to Rodriguez in the week leading up to โhis death and “knew the pills were strong and warned the young man to be careful.” A Juneโ 30th text message exchange revealed CC-1 even told Rodriguez, “I don’t want to kill you,” and questioned, “Do you really need them?” โขRodriguez โresponded, “What? Please elaborate,” to which CC-1 replied, “I just don’t like selling โขthem as they’re not prescription.” despite the warnings, Rodriguez purchased three fentanyl pills and two Xanax pills forโฃ $105 the following day; he was โfound dead theโ next โmorning.
The investigation also uncovered a separate case involving “Victim #1,” identified as 19-year-old Akira Stein, who fatally overdosed afterโข allegedly receiving drugs โฃfrom John and Roy โคNicolas. Stein was found unconscious in โฃthe bathroom of his Manhattan apartment, where he lived โalone in a sixth-floor luxury unit he had rented for less than aโ year. The building’s concierge described Rodriguez โฃas โฃa “nice young man who always said hello.”โ
The โNew York City Medical Examiner ruled โRodriguez’s death an accident,โฃ citing “toxic effects fromโ fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine and cocaine” as the causeโข of death. Theโข five individuals โฃnow face charges related to drug trafficking and conspiracy, highlighting the ongoing โcrisis of fentanyl-related deaths and the efforts to hold accountable thoseโ involved in its distribution.
