Ex-FBI Director James Comey indicted on two charges

by Emma Walker – News Editor September 26, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

WASHINGTON (October 26, 2023) – Former FBI⁤ Director James Comey has been⁢ indicted on ⁤two charges related to the⁤ handling ⁣of confidential FBI facts, the Justice Department announced⁣ today. The charges ⁤stem from Comey’s actions following his dismissal from the FBI in⁢ 2017.

The indictment alleges that Comey improperly⁣ disclosed unclassified ⁤memos ⁢detailing conversations with then-President Donald Trump to a private individual with the intention of prompting a media leak. This occurred after Comey was fired amidst the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The case resurfaces long-standing scrutiny⁢ of the Trump-Russia probe and raises questions about the handling of sensitive government information by high-ranking officials.

According to the Justice⁤ department, the charges⁣ relate‌ to Comey authorizing a friend to share the contents of‌ a memo documenting a request from President Trump to halt the FBI’s investigation into former National Security‍ Advisor Michael Flynn. Trump and his allies later labeled ⁢Comey⁢ a leaker, ⁢with the president at one point accusing him ⁢of treason. Comey has publicly characterized ‍Trump as “ego driven” and likened his behavior to that of a mafia boss.

This growth follows years of reviews and investigations into the FBI’s conduct during the Trump-Russia investigation, ⁢including an inspector general review of Comey’s handling of ‍the ⁢memos and a special counsel investigation led by John Durham. Neither review resulted in charges against comey.

The indictment also arrives amid recent actions involving Comey’s family. Earlier this⁣ year, his daughter, ⁢Maurene Comey, was fired from her position as a prosecutor in the Southern District of New York and has as filed a lawsuit alleging the termination was ⁣politically motivated. Additionally, Comey’s son-in-law, Troy Edwards, resigned as ⁤a federal prosecutor ⁢shortly after the indictment was announced, stating he did so “to uphold my oath⁢ to the Constitution and the country.”‍

The Justice Department‍ has not specified potential penalties for ⁣Comey if convicted. The case is‌ expected to be closely watched, given the political ‌sensitivities surrounding the Trump-Russia investigation and the high profile of the defendant.

Man Found Guilty in Attempted Assassination of Former ‌President Trump

Fort Lauderdale, Florida ⁣- A Florida jury⁢ found Dominic Routh guilty today of attempting to assassinate former ⁣President Donald Trump‌ during⁤ a⁣ rally‌ in⁢ October 2023. The conviction marks a‌ notable outcome⁤ in a case that raised concerns about security surrounding political figures ⁢and the potential for politically motivated violence.

The verdict comes after a trial revealing Routh’s history ⁤of extremist views ‌and preparations ⁣for an attack. The incident prompted an immediate Secret Service ‌response and a heightened focus on threat assessment protocols. Routh now faces a ⁢substantial prison sentence, with the case‍ underscoring the ongoing challenges‌ of protecting‍ high-profile individuals ‍in an increasingly polarized‍ environment. State charges of terrorism and attempted murder remain pending.

Routh, a North Carolina construction worker who had recently relocated to‌ Hawaii, had openly discussed⁣ his‌ plans to insert himself into global conflicts. Prior‍ to the attempted assassination, ‍he‍ attempted to recruit fighters from ‍Afghanistan, Moldova, and taiwan to join the conflict in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion.

Authorities uncovered a troubling⁢ past, including a 2002‍ arrest in‍ Greensboro, North carolina, where⁣ Routh⁤ barricaded himself from police with a fully automatic machine gun and an explosive device with a 10-inch fuse. In 2010, a ‌search of a warehouse ‍owned by Routh⁤ revealed ‍over 100 stolen items, ranging from power‌ tools to kayaks. Despite these felony arrests,⁣ Routh received‌ probation or suspended sentences in both cases.

“This‍ attempted assassination was not only an attack on our‍ President, but ⁢an affront to our⁤ very‍ nation,” ⁣stated former State ‍Attorney Pam Bondi, reflecting the gravity of the situation. ⁤

macron Briefly Blocked in New York, Calls Trump to Negotiate Street ⁣Access

NEW YORK – French President emmanuel Macron found ⁣himself unexpectedly stalled in ‌a New york City street Monday following⁢ a‍ speech at‍ the ⁣united Nations, prompting ⁣him to ‌call ⁣U.S. President Donald Trump in an ⁤attempt to resolve the situation. French media ⁤reported⁢ and a French official confirmed to the Associated⁢ Press that Macron was prevented from ‍walking to France’s diplomatic mission due to security protocols freezing traffic for ⁣Trump’s motorcade.

The incident occurred shortly after Macron announced⁤ France’s formal ‌recognition ⁣of Palestinian statehood at the UN,‍ a move intended to galvanize support for a two-state solution to the Mideast conflict. The temporary disruption highlights the complexities ⁢of international diplomacy and security arrangements in a major global city, and underscores the ongoing efforts to address the crisis in Gaza. Macron’s call to Trump demonstrates a willingness to engage directly ‌with the U.S. ⁣on pressing regional issues.

According to reports, Macron initially dialed‍ trump while waiting ‍on the sidewalk ‍with a group ‍of ten people. “How are you?” Macron reportedly said. ”Guess‍ what? I’m waiting in the street because everything is⁣ frozen for you!”

A police officer on the scene apologized to Macron,‌ explaining, “I’m really sorry, it’s just that everything’s frozen right now.” Macron then used ⁣the‌ call as an prospect to discuss the situation in Gaza, stating, “I would love this weekend have a short discussion with Qatar and you on the situation in ‍Gaza.”

French media outlets reported that traffic resumed and Macron was able to continue his walk‍ to the French diplomatic mission a‍ few minutes ⁤later. OREM, utah – Law enforcement⁣ officials have taken a suspect into custody following wednesday’s shooting of Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist, during an event at⁤ Utah Valley University (UVU). The shooting occurred while Kirk was answering questions from the audience about gun ⁢violence. Witnesses‌ reported seeing ‍Kirk reach for his neck as blood emerged from a wound on the ‌left side. the‌ incident prompted an immediate ⁣campus lockdown and a ‍two-day search for the shooter, which concluded with an arrest announced Friday.

He described being haunted by the images he witnessed.

OU,‌ OSU Students mourn Charlie Kirk ⁢Following Shooting⁣ Death

NORMAN, OKLAHOMA – ⁢ Students at‍ the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State university are ‍expressing grief and shock following‌ the death of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, who was fatally shot Wednesday, September 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University. Vigils and tributes are being held across the country, including one⁢ at OU Thursday ⁣evening, as students grapple with the⁢ loss⁤ of a figure ⁣who inspired many ⁣within the conservative ⁤movement.

At the⁣ OU vigil, junior Elizabeth Ardizzone,20,described ⁣herself as a proud Republican Jew from New⁣ York. She said that while attending high school on the East Coast,⁤ she was always told that she would be ⁢villainized if she spoke up for both her beliefs. “But watching Charlie Kirk and hearing‌ the way he spoke, the way that his mind worked,⁢ was just amazing to⁣ me,” Ardizzone said. “I did not understand how much information someone ‌like him‍ could have in ‌his head and just be able to articulate it so well – and so respectfully, too. ‌He ‍changed so many people’s opinions on even‌ the ‍most minute things.”

Gary barksdale, an OU math professor and faculty adviser‍ to the Turning ‌point chapter, called for the students at⁢ the OU vigil to hold onto Kirk’s memory. “Charlie was ⁢impactful to me in such a way because he let me know that the ⁢fire of patriotic devotion is‍ in the heart of our youth,” Barksdale said.

Kalib ⁤Magana, president ⁣of the OU chapter for Turning ⁤Point USA,⁣ said he was‍ in disbelief⁣ when he‍ heard Kirk was killed. Magana, who said he had met and gotten to know Kirk ‍personally, remembered ⁤him ⁢as a “respectful and caring” person who was passionate about his personal beliefs, his Christian faith and⁢ his‍ family.

“I⁢ guess the only way to ‍really move on from this is, for us as patriots, for us‍ as⁢ the youth, to carry on what Charlie Kirk would’ve wanted us to do,” Magana said. “Right ⁢now, he would⁤ want⁤ us to continue on fighting for our ⁣country, doing what’s right, speaking the Word of⁢ God, to ensure that our ‍country ‌lives on.”

Turning⁣ Point USA, founded in⁤ 2012,⁤ has become a ‍prominent association in ‌American conservative politics,⁢ particularly among college students. Kirk,a vocal advocate for limited government, individual liberty, and conventional values, frequently visited college campuses to speak⁤ and engage with ‌students.⁤ His death ⁤has sparked⁢ a national conversation⁣ about political violence and the safety of⁢ public figures.

Trump Tariffs Threaten Higher Electronics Prices

by Priya Shah – Business Editor August 7, 2025

WASHINGTON (AP) – Former President Donald Trump, during a meeting with apple CEO Tim Cook at the White House on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, announced his intention to impose new tariffs on computer chips imported into the United states. This move signals a significant departure from the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 and reflects Trump’s belief that tariffs will incentivize domestic chip manufacturing.

Trump’s strategy centers on increasing the cost of imported chips, aiming to compel companies to establish production facilities within the U.S. He posits that higher costs will outweigh the expenses associated with domestic manufacturing, despite potential impacts on corporate profits and consumer prices for electronics like mobile phones, televisions, and refrigerators. The proposed tariffs have sparked debate regarding their potential economic consequences.

This approach contrasts sharply with the $52.7 billion CHIPS and Science Act, signed into law by President Joe Biden in August 2022. The CHIPS Act provides funding for semiconductor manufacturing, research and development, and workforce training. Key provisions include $39 billion in manufacturing incentives, $13.2 billion for research and development, and $5 billion for workforce development programs. The legislation aims to attract private investment through a combination of grants, loans, and tax credits. Intel, for example, has announced plans to build a $20 billion chip manufacturing complex in Ohio, partially funded by the CHIPS act.
