Jakarta -โ Cristianoโค Ronaldo has explained his absence from the funeral of โteammate diogo Jota‘s brother, Andrรฉ Silva, stating he wished to avoid drawing โฃattention away from theโ moment of grief. Andrรฉ Silva died in a car accident in Spainโ in early July, weeks after jota โand โRonaldoโ helped Portugal win the UEFA Nations League.
Ronaldo revealed his decision stemmed from a personal rule โฃhe adoptedโข following the death of his own father – โขto refrain โfrom attending funerals. He elaborated in an interview withโฃ Piers Morgan, explaining that his presence ofen creates a disruptive “circus” of attention. “There are two โขthings; people frequently enough criticize โme. I don’t care about that. โWhenโ your conscience โis good โand free, you don’t need โขto worry about what people say,” Ronaldo said, as quoted by ESPN. โฃ”But one thing I didn’t do?โ After my father died, I never went to a funeral again. When you know meโ and knowโ my reputation? Everywhere I go, it’s like a circus.”
He further clarified his discomfort withโ the potential for sensitive moments to be exploited for interviews or footballโฃ discussions. “I don’t like it when you โgo to sensitive moments toโ do interviews, to talk about it, to talk about football,” Ronaldo stated.”It shows how life โขis sometimesโ like a circus. I’m not part of that. If you want toโข be part of that โฃworld, go ahead,โ but I’ll be on the other side.”
Despiteโ not attending the funeral, Ronaldo expressed his condolencesโฃ to Jota and his family โคthrough social media and direct contact. He also honored Jota’s brother by celebrating a goal in Portugal’s 5-0 victory over Armenia in September. “Peopleโฃ can continue to criticize. Iโ feel my decision was right. Iโค didn’t go out because, if I went โout, attention woudl be on me. Iโฃ don’t want this kind of attention,” the al Nassr forward explained.
