keith McIvor, โขone half of teh influential Scottish DJ duoโ Optimo (Espacio), has died,โ his partner Jonnie Wilkes โฃannounced today.โฃ McIvor wasโข 57 years old. The news follows a recentโฃ public battle with brain cancer, diagnosed in July 2023.
McIvor rose to prominence in the 1990s with the Edinburgh club night Pure before forming Optimo (Espacio) withโ Wilkes in 1997 at Glasgow’s Sub Club.โ The pairโ became internationally renowned for their expertly curatedโค sets and championed a diverse range of music, hosting acts including LCD Soundsystem, Franz Ferdinand, Cut Copy, The Rapture, TV โon the Radio, and Hot Chipโ duringโ their celebrated Sundayโค night residency whichโข ranโ until โฃ2010.
Bornโค in โคEdinburgh, McIvor and Wilkes, as Optimoโ (Espacio), toured globally, continued music production, โคand operatedโ their own record label. In July 2023,โ McIvor publicly revealed his diagnosis via Instagram, detailing the rapidโค decline of his health. A subsequent crowdfunding campaign โwas launchedโ to support his care.

McIvor reflected on his career โฃin a July โ3rdโฃ Instagram post, stating, “Jonnieโ and I โขhave been lucky โenough to play out music at countless clubs โand festivals throughout the world, โandโ itโฃ has โbeen one of the โฃgreatest honors of my life to โคmake โa career out of something Iโข love. We haveโค connected with โsoโค many gorgeous souls thru our shared passion for music.”
