Police Escort Speeding Driver to Hospital for Emergency Delivery
Vendôme, France – A driver caught speeding near Vendôme, in France’s Loir-et-Cher region on Saturday, received an unexpected escort – not to the police station, but to the hospital. Motorcycle gendarmes conducting speed control on departmental road 957 flagged the vehicle after its radar reading indicated a significantly high speed.
However, the driver had a compelling reason for exceeding the limit: his wife was in labor and about to give birth in the passenger seat, according to the Loir-et-Cher gendarmerie.
Instead of issuing a ticket, the officers escorted the couple approximately twenty kilometers to the Blois hospital. The mother was able to deliver a healthy baby boy in a safe environment.
“Responsiveness that allowed the mother to ‘give birth to her little boy’ in a more suitable place than a car seat,” the gendarmerie stated. “A little boy ‘in perfect health’.”
