A fieryโ eight-vehicle collision โon the westbound โฃ10 Freeway near the 15 Freewayโ interchange in Ontario on Tuesday left three people dead and four injured,authorities said. โฃJashanpreet Singh, 21, has been โarrested and accusedโฃ of causing the crash.
According to the San โBernardino Countyโฃ Sheriff’s Department inmate log,โค Singh was booked on felony charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the โคinfluence of drugs causing injury.
Theโ California Highway Patrol โค(CHP) reports the crash occurred aroundโ 1:10 p.m. when a โbig-rig driver failed to slow for slowing traffic, initiatingโ a chain-reaction pileup. Dashboard camera footage obtained by ABC7 shows the truck colliding with a carโค in front of it โand continuing โคthrough multiple vehicles before hitting another โขtruck,resulting in one passenger car โขcatching fire.
Among the victims identified were Clarence and Lisa Nelson, a former assistant basketball coach at Pomona High School and his wife, according toโ KTLA. Pomona High School posted a tribute to the couple on โคFacebook.
Three peopleโ were pronounced โdead at the scene, and four were hospitalized. By Wednesday โขnight, all but oneโ of those hospitalized – โคincluding Singh – had โbeen released, stated CHP โspokesperson Rodrigo Jimenez. Singh is being held without bail and is scheduled for an initial hearing โฃThursday.
