Woman, 27, Dies of Malnutrition in Bali After Following Extreme Fruitarian Diet
Denpasar, Bali – A 27-year-old woman, identified as Karolina Krzyzak, died from malnutrition while staying at the Sumberkima Hill resort in Bali in December 2024, according to reports. Hotel staff discovered Krzyzak unresponsive in her villa adn she was later pronounced dead.
Krzyzak had checked into the resort requesting a villa with a pool. Staff instantly noted her severely emaciated condition, describing her as having sunken eyes and protruding collarbones. they recalled needing to escort her to her room one evening as she was too weak to walk on her own.
Her physical health had visibly deteriorated, with reports of yellowed fingernails, rotting teeth, and signs of severe nutrient deficiency. Hotel employees repeatedly urged her to seek medical attention, but she consistently declined.
Concern escalated when a local friend contacted the hotel,stating they hadn’t heard from Krzyzak as her arrival. Staff then found her motionless in her room.
According to a report by The Sun, Krzyzak suffered from osteoporosis and an albumin deficiency at the time of her death, both linked to prolonged malnutrition. Friends stated she had a history of body image issues and anorexia during her teenage years. While studying in the UK, she became interested in yoga and veganism, eventually adopting a “fruitarian” diet - a highly restrictive practice centered almost exclusively on raw fruit.
Despite repeated pleas from family and friends, Krzyzak refused to abandon her extreme dietary practices. At the time of her death, she weighed just 22 kilograms.
