Kreuzberg Politician Turgut Altug Leaves Greens, Citing Disconnect adn Concerns Over โคThe Left Party
Berlin – Turgut Altug, a member of theโ Berlin House of Representatives for โขthe Green Party since 2011, has announced his resignation โคfromโ both the party and โits โparliamentary group. The Kreuzbergโฃ politician cited a growing disconnect within the political landscape and โฃexpressed deep concerns regarding the direction ofโ Theโค left party (Die Linke), specifically criticizingโค their policies and internal issues.
Altug’s departure underscores increasing tensions within Berlin’s political โคsphere, particularly regarding housing policy and accusations of antisemitism. He highlighted theโ irony ofโ The Left’s push forโค nationalization of housing, given the party’s predecessor, the PDS, spearheaded theโ privatization of municipal housing in the early 2000s – aโฃ move he argues continues to worsen Berlin’s housingโ crisis. โฃHeโ alsoโ voiced frustration over what he โฃperceives as insufficient action against antisemitism within The Left’s youth wing, stating, “Anti-Semitismโค in our โขown ranks hardly fought.”
The 60-year-oldโ Altug, who โคsecured hisโค seat through a direct mandate, intends to remain a member of the โคBerlin House of Representatives. He previously served asโ a spokesperson for nature conservation, environmental and โขnature education, nutrition, and agriculture. Altug’s decision comes amid aโ broader debate about political alignment and the challenges of addressing complex issues like affordable housing and risingโ extremism.โฃ He expressed a belief that “the vast majority โคlives in โtheir own ‘bubble’,” suggestingโค a lack of genuine engagement and โขunderstanding acrossโฃ the political spectrum.
