Bengaluru:โ Police Booked After 22-Year-Old Dies in Rehab Center

BENGALURU – Four police officers, including the inspector of Viveknagar police station, are facing charges following the death of a 22-year-old man, Darshan, who was found deceased at โa private rehabilitation centre in โMadanayakanahalli on Wednesday.
Mother alleges Custodial Violence and Negligence
Darshan’s mother, Adilakshmi, filed a formal complaint accusing personnel โขfrom the viveknagar police station and theโข unity Social Service Trust Rehabilitation โCentre of custodial violence, illegal detention, and criminal negligence leading to her son’s death.
Initial Detention and Transfer to Rehab
According to reports, Darshan, a resident of Sonnenahalli in Koramangala, was initially taken into police custody on November 12th โafter an altercation near hisโ home.โฃ Police state he allegedly brandished aโข machete during the incident.
threeโ days later, on November 15th, the viveknagar police reportedly arranged for Darshan’s admission to the Unity Social Service Trust Rehabilitation Centre located in Adakamaranahalli.
“Tortured โand Beaten” – Mother’s Account
“My son was torturedโค and beaten while in custody and then admitted toโ the rehab centre.โ He was in immense pain.Despite my repeated pleas, the police โขrefused to allow me toโข see him. Iโค begged themโ not to โขsend him to jail, offering to take him to โคa de-addiction centre myself.The torture he endured leftโฃ him unable โto walk. the police demanded โand I paid Rs 2,500 for โhis โฃadmission to the rehab, and the centre continually assured me he was improving.”
Victim’s โStruggleโ with Alcohol Addiction
Darshan was reportedly struggling with alcohol addiction prior to his detention.his mother’s complaint alleges that the police were aware of hisโ condition and should have handled the situation with greater care.
