Fortuna Düsseldorf: Jona Niemiec is the Fortuna madman | sport

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 23, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

His career at Fortuna Düsseldorf is just crazy…

With his last-minute 2:2, Jona Niemiec caused one of the biggest moments of celebration in the arena in recent years, two days after his 23rd birthday. His first derby against 1. FC Köln will remain unforgettable for him – but this game is now in a long series.

The Fortuna madman strikes again!

When the extra time against the highly superior Cologne team was almost over, Düsseldorf and Niemiec still wanted to equalize – but he certainly didn’t want the ball to fly in like that. Captain Andre Hoffmann (31) made it clear straight away: “Please don’t explain anywhere that this was intentional!” Niemiec didn’t even try after his cross slipped into the far corner: “I’m not even saying that, I just wanted to get the ball to Vermeij or Kownacki somehow – the fact that it falls back like that is of course crazy.”

The fact that this is exactly what happened to Niemiec fits perfectly with his time in Düsseldorf. Three years ago, the offensive player came from TSG Sprockhövel from the association league to Fortuna’s U23 – even then he was one of the few players who had never been in the youth performance center. On February 8, 2023, Niemiec made his professional debut in the cup in Nuremberg, completely unexpectedly, because Düsseldorf had no more personnel. Daniel Thioune (50) brought him on in extra time, where he first got a red card and then wanted to become the hero in the penalty shootout – Niemiec missed, but won a lot of Fortuna love.

And shortly afterwards, his first professional contract. The Cinderella story is complete – but it’s far from over. Last season, Niemiec caused Fortuna to ecstasy with his double substitute pack in the cup in Magdeburg, making the crazy journey to the semi-finals in this competition possible. In the race for promotion, however, the striker was once again a tragic hero: in the relegation second leg against Bochum, Niemiec had a huge chance to score the goal that would secure promotion shortly before the end of extra time, but the ball was cleared on the line.

Previously, one of the fastest players in the second division had openly stated in the winter that his goal was to later play in the Champions League and for the national team (he could play for Germany and Poland). But because he didn’t score, everyday life in the second division continued. And Niemiec sweetened it with his next amazing moment in the derby. “These are pure emotions. The best moment for me in this stadium.”

If he continues like this, there will be more of these moments to come…

Fortuna Düsseldorf: Bet that Dawid Kownacki will start shooting now…?! | Sport

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 16, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

He has had to wait so long for this moment…

At Hertha BSC (2-0), Dawid Kownacki (27) scored for the first time since his return to Fortuna Düsseldorf – and for the first time ever in a competitive match since his farewell match against Kaiserslautern (3-0) on the last matchday of the season before last. And that will surely have only been the beginning.

Bet that Kownacki will start shooting now…?!

His first goal after 476 days really touched the heart of the Pole, he celebrated with the fans and his colleagues, but also needed a few moments for himself. Kownacki: “The first goal after my return was very emotional for me, this moment will stay in my mind for a long time. I didn’t score for over a year – I didn’t have many chances in Bremen.” After his free transfer, the Düsseldorf striker had only played 364 minutes in 22 matches – now his goal redemption.

What’s striking is that since Kownacki has been there, Fortuna has finally had some really good moments in attack. In Ulm (2:1) he missed two mega opportunities, against Hannover (1:0) he hit the crossbar, now in Berlin there was the first celebration – and there are many more to come. Kownacki: “Here at Fortuna I have more confidence. In the first few games I had chances, but I didn’t take them. I stayed calm – that’s important for a striker.”

But it is particularly important for him that he has a coach in Düsseldorf who is 100 percent behind him. Daniel Thioune (50) had already vetoed the transfer two years ago, ensuring that Kownacki played a mega season (14 goals and 9 assists) at Fortuna before leaving Werder. Now the coach absolutely wanted his favorite back, and Klaus Allofs (67) and Christian Weber (41) granted his wish.

Kownacki (loaned for a year with an option to buy for around €2.5 million) had already paid back in Ulm and Hanover, and now in Berlin he has also scored a goal and scored an assist – and he has also fought hard. During the week the Pole had described himself as a “defensive striker” and he proved this at Hertha BSC. And now that he has broken his goal-scoring itch, he is even more of a goal-scoring hope for the league leaders.

Fortuna Düsseldorf: How Danny Schmidt thwarts the club’s plans | Sport

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 2, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Before the start of the season, Fortuna Düsseldorf brought in Danny Schmidt (21) from Mainz 05 II in the 4th division in order to develop him in peace – also through appearances in their own regional league team. Their coach Jens Langenecke (47) can probably forget about that…

This is how Schmidt thwarts Fortuna’s plans!

If Düsseldorf had not lost promotion so dramatically in the penalty shootout of the relegation match against Bochum, Schmidt – who was signed on a free transfer in February – would have initially been built up in the 4th division.

However, the fact that he didn’t get promoted is a stroke of luck for him. After four match days, Düsseldorf is at the top of the 2nd division – not least thanks to Schmidt. The attacking midfielder, who is also currently playing as a hanging striker, is Fortuna’s top scorer with two goals in four games.

Most recently, he scored in the 1-0 win over Hannover with energetic follow-up after a chance from Dawid Kownacki (27) for the three more than deserved points. And redeemed himself in the process…

Because he had missed a huge opportunity early on. Schmidt: “I just thought, how could it not go in? Even though the defense was top notch: the ball has to go in.” The monster tackle by Hannover’s Max Christiansen (27) was top notch…

Schmidt: “I’m obviously happy that we won in the end and got the three points. The fact that my ball went in is of course even better. If we hadn’t won, I might not have been able to sleep so well.”

Fortuna’s top scorer continued: “If I’m still there after 34 games, that’s great. But after four games, there’s still a lot to be done.” Schmidt feels very comfortable with his Fortuna at the top of the table. And during the two-week international break, he can look down on the other 17 clubs in the league from above…

Fortuna Düsseldorf: Dawid Kownacki vows to score after game in Ulm | sport

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 26, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Three points – but still anything but a dream comeback…

Just 15 months after leaving for Bremen on a free transfer, Dawid Kownacki (27) was back in Fortuna Düsseldorf’s starting eleven in Ulm (2:1). The fact that he had hardly been used at Werder in the meantime was particularly evident in front of goal. The Pole put on a show of blunders – but he already noticed that things would soon be going much better.

KOWNACKI goal vow to Fortuna fans!

Düsseldorf played poorly against the newly promoted team, but the returning striker could have – or should have – shot Daniel Thioune’s (50) faltering team to victory in the first half. First he failed alone in front of the goal against Ulm keeper Christian Ortag (29), then Kownacki gave him the chance to make another brilliant save from six meters, completely unmarked, because he did not properly hit the ricochet from Felix Klaus (31).

Kownacki: “The game was very emotional for me, a real rollercoaster. I had two very good chances and I need to score at least one goal, then it will be much easier for the whole team. But we have three points and that is the most important thing. We need this mentality that we showed all season. And I’m sure my goals will come when I play more minutes again. The international break is coming soon, which will help me again – but first of all I’m looking forward to seeing the fans at home again.”

On Friday, Fortuna will face Hannover in the top match (6.30 p.m., Sky). The good thing about Kownacki’s abundance of chances in Ulm: he can now celebrate his goal comeback in front of his own fans.

The striker (on loan for one year with an option to buy for around €2.5 million): “Because we won, we can now say that and laugh about it. But I’ve received a lot of messages about my return and I’m very happy that the fans are so happy that I’m back. I already have a lot more confidence and everything else will come with more playing time.”

Fortuna Düsseldorf: New millions of hope in the Corona-coal dispute | Sport

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 18, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The shock could turn into a jackpot…

The district government in Düsseldorf is demanding that Fortuna Düsseldorf repay 1.7 million euros in Corona aid – because the club was relegated in 2020 and the drop in sales was therefore not only a result of the pandemic (BILD reported). But the revelation 10 days ago has set a lot in motion.

New million dollar hope for Fortuna!

At the end of 2023, the club received the repayment demand and filed a lawsuit against it. In addition to the claim that the Corona costs were not as high as necessary (at least a 30 percent drop in sales), what was surprising was that no other relegated team in Germany has to pay back its aid. And that is now causing surprise even far away from the parties in dispute.

BILD learned that the demand is also completely incomprehensible for city politicians (which has nothing to do with the NRW district government, which is also in Düsseldorf). In addition, the reporting ten days ago also informed the employees in the district government who had previously had no knowledge of it – and they are now asking themselves: Why does Fortuna have to pay and no other relegated team? Even SC Paderborn, which had to go into the 2nd division with Düsseldorf, did not receive a repayment demand – and the same district government is responsible for them.

There have been a lot of discussions in recent days, and Fortuna is increasingly getting the impression that it has a good chance of a good outcome. However, this is not just about the 1.7 million repayment, but also about 1.4 million more Corona aid that the club applied for at the time but for which no decision was ever made. The district government has already confirmed to BILD that a decision will be made on this after the outcome of the current 1.7 million dispute.

DFB Cup shock: Tram rams fan bus

Those: Nonstopnews17.08.2024

What makes the whole issue so bizarre for Fortuna these days is that Düsseldorf has to play Dynamo Dresden in the cup – which was relegated to the 3rd division in 2020 and received a total of 7.7 million in Corona aid, but does not have to pay anything back. The club only released the last 3 million in the spring, which had been set aside in case a repayment claim was made.
