singapore Bolsters Cyber Defenses โwith Major Exercise, New 5G Testbed
SINGAPOREโ – Singapore‘s Cyber Securityโข Agency (CSA) โrecently concluded its large-scale โคcyber defense exercise, Cyber integrated Defence Exercise (CIDeX) 2025, โฃaimed at strengthening the nation’s ability โtoo protect critical IT and Operational Technology (OT) networks. Concurrently, the CSA launched the Cyber5G testbed, a new โfacility designed to advance โขcybersecurity research and training โขfor the telecommunications sector.
CIDeX 2025 brought together personnel fromโ the Singapore Armed โForces (SAF) and the CSA, leveraging “innovations to โฃcyber defence” and deploying “skilled cyber talent and national servicemen,” according to โa CSA statement. The exercise focused on providing realistic training โto defenders facing “real, complex, and rapidly โevolving” โคcyber threats.
“Large-scale โขexercises like CIDeXโฃ give our defenders the realistic training to โคhone their craft andโค stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated cyber threat actors,” saidโค edward Chen, deputy chief โexecutive for โขNational Cyber Resilience atโค the CSA. “We are appreciative โขofโข this strong partnership with the SAF to build Singapore’s collective โคcyber resilience.”
The โexercise โbenefitted from โmeaningfulโ privateโค sector โขcollaboration, with contributions โfrom Singtel, AWS, Check Point Software Technologies, Dragos, Fortinet, Google โCloud, and Splunk. These partners provided realistic cyber-attack scenarios andโ contributed to a six-day training programme designedโข to enhance participants’ cyber defense competencies. โ
Complementingโค CIDeX โ2025, the newlyโฃ established Cyber5G testbed utilizes telco-grade components to โfacilitate threat modeling โand cyber training specifically โfor the telecommunications industry. The โคtestbed will enable research into โฃreal-world โขattackโฃ vectors targeting nationalโค infrastructure, supporting the development of robust defensiveโฃ strategies.
Theseโ developmentsโค come as global cybersecurityโฃ exercises andโ frameworks gain prominence. Last month, the โEuropean Unionโ Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) held BlueOLEx 2025 โขin Cyprus, testing executive-level cooperation in responding toโ large-scale cyber incidents, guided by the recently released EU โCyber Blueprint.
