Prabowo Inaugurates National Village Cooperative Initiative
Nationwide launch set for July 21, 2025, aiming to boost grassroots economy
President Prabowo Subianto is slated to launch the expansive Red and White Village Cooperative (Kopdes) program on Monday, July 21, 2025, a nationwide initiative designed to invigorate the village economy.
Presidential Directive for Economic Empowerment
The launch signifies a direct directive from President Prabowo, emphasizing the critical importance of this program’s success. Coordinating Minister for Food Division Zulkifli Hasan, also known as Zulhas, highlighted the urgency, stating, I already reported the president when in Brazil our preparation, I said Central Java was ready, you want to launch at any time ready.
He stressed that failure could erode public trust in cooperatives. The program carries the ambitious tagline, ‘Build the Village Cooperative, Indonesia Jaya’.
The initiative aims to solidify the economic independence of Indonesian communities. A 2023 report by the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) indicated that approximately 75% of Indonesian villages reported improved economic conditions due to local cooperative activities, underscoring the potential impact of this national rollout (BPS 2023).
Massive Mobilization of Village Leaders
The event is expected to draw an unprecedented number of village leaders, with an estimated 83,000 village heads and 80,000 village deliberation bodies (BPD) from across Indonesia anticipated to participate. Additionally, 514 regents and 38 governors will be present.
Zulhas confirmed that 80,000 cooperatives are slated for institutional launch, with 78,000 already reported as ready for the event. Central Java Governor Ahmad Lutfi assured the readiness of his province, noting that all 8,523 cooperatives in Central Java are legally established entities, making it the first province to achieve 100% legal compliance for this program.
Central Java Gears Up as Host Province
Central Java is preparing to host this significant national event at the Red and White Village Cooperative (KDMP) Bentang in Klaten Regency. Governor Ahmad Lutfi expressed his commitment to supervising the program’s implementation, stating, So this will indirectly make our village empowered by the Red and White Cooperative which is the policy of the President.
Extensive preparations, including rehearsals on July 18th and 19th, are underway to ensure a seamless event for the expected influx of nearly 9,000 personnel and VVIP officials.
The launch ceremony will be graced by several key ministers, including Minister of Disadvantaged Village Development Yandri Susanto, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Cooperatives Budi Arie Setiadi, and Deputy Village Minister Ahmad Riza Patria. One hundred and three mock-ups of the Red and White Village/Kelurahan Cooperative will be showcased virtually.
The successful rollout of these 80,000 cooperatives is a testament to the collaborative efforts of a dedicated task force involving multiple ministries, including Coordinating, Cooperatives, Finance, Home Affairs, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Health, Agriculture, National Development Planning, Social Affairs, and State-Owned Enterprises. Partnerships with state-owned enterprises like PT Pupuk Indonesia, PT Pertamina, Bank Mandiri, and others are also crucial to the program’s success.
