Venezuela โขHoldsโ 89 Foreign Political Prisoners, Rightsโ Group Reports
Caracas – As of September 15, 89 foreign nationals adn Venezuelans with dual citizenship are currently detained in Venezuela as political prisoners, according to a report released Wednesdayโฃ by the NGO Criminal Forum.
Colombians โฃcomprise the largest group of foreign politicalโข prisoners, โwith โฃ21 individuals held. The report โฃalso details the detention of โtwo citizens each โfrom Germany, Argentina, Ecuador, France, the Netherlands, Peru, and ukraine. โขAdditionally, two individuals with both Iranian and Irish nationality, and another with Polish and Ukrainian passports are among those imprisoned.
Other nationalities represented in the count include โdetainees from the Czech Republic,Cuba,Lebanon,Pakistan,Guyana,hungary,Italy,andโ Romania.
Criminal Forum documented further โcases of dual nationals: 13โค with Colombian citizenship, 13 with Spanish citizenship, โ6 โwith Italian citizenship,โ 5 withโค Portuguese citizenship, and one โeachโข from chile, Cyprus, Argentina, and Hungary.
The โขreport’s release โcoincides withโ a renewed travel warning โขfromโ the United States inโฃ August, advising citizens to avoid travel to Venezuela dueโ to the risk of arbitrary detention, torture, terrorism, kidnapping, violence, and civil unrest.
