Messi completes comeback with brace in Inter Miami win

What an evening for superstar Lionel Messi!

The 2022 world champion scored a brace in his club Inter Miami’s 3-1 home win over Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer, marking a successful comeback after a two-month ankle injury.

However, the match started anything but ideally for the hosts, as Uhre put the visitors in front after just a few seconds (2′). Undeterred, Messi and co. fought back and took the lead within a few minutes thanks to two goals from the 37-year-old (26′, 30′).

As the game progressed, Miami had the chance to decide the match early. However, the apparent 3-1 goal by Suarez was disallowed by the referee with the help of VAR due to an offside position.

“I’m a little tired”

The score remained close until the final phase, before Messi served Suarez perfectly in injury time and was directly involved in the 3-1 (90.+8).

After the match, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner appeared exhausted. “I’m a little tired. The heat and humidity in Miami aren’t helping, but I really wanted to get back, I haven’t been on the pitch for a long time,” said the Argentine after the final whistle.

With this success, Miami extends its winning streak in the MLS and is now at the top of the Eastern Conference table. Philadelphia, on the other hand, is ranked eleventh.

Schöpf wins with Vancouver – Wolf draws with New York

In the parallel match, ÖFB legionnaire Alessandro Schöpf was in the starting eleven for the Vancouver Whitecaps’ 2-0 win against the San Jose Earthquakes and was on the field until the 84th minute. The goals for the hosts were scored by Picault (35th) and Armstrong (85th), who came on for Schöpf.

Fellow countryman Hannes Wolf also started New York City FC’s away draw against DC United and was substituted in the 85th minute. Rodriguez scored the goal for the visitors (32′), before Benteke equalized for the hosts with a penalty in the 67th minute.

In the table, the Whitecaps are in fifth place in the Western Conference, New York is sixth in the Eastern Conference.

Former Dortmund player Mor is loaned out within the Süper Lig

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 14, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Fenerbahce Istanbul is loaning winger Emre Mor to city rivals Eyüpspor until the end of the season. The club, led by head coach Jose Mourinho, announced this on Friday on “X”.

Born in Denmark, the 15-time Turkish international was once considered a super talent in his home country and was even dubbed the “new Lionel Messi”. But after a lot of hype, the career of the now 27-year-old experienced a dramatic decline, at the latest since his departure from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017.

Via Celta Vigo, he then moved on to Galatasaray Istanbul, later he played for Olympiakus Piraeus and Karagümrük, until he finally joined his parent club Fenerbahce in the summer of 2022.

In 195 competitive matches so far, the winger has scored 19 goals and provided 19 assists, most of them in the Turkish Süper Lig.

Ronaldo is not considering ending his career any time soon

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 27, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Even at the age of 39, Cristiano Ronaldo is not considering ending his football career any time soon.

“I don’t know if I’ll stop soon. Maybe in two or three years. But I’ll probably retire here at Al-Nassr,” the star striker said in an interview with Portuguese television channel Now.

He is “very happy” at the Saudi club and feels “comfortable in this country. I want to continue in Saudi Arabia,” stressed the Portuguese.

Ronaldo also does not want to say goodbye to the Portuguese national team, in which he has played for 20 years and with whom he won the 2016 European Championship, so quickly. At the moment he is only thinking about “continuing to help the Seleção”. At the last European Championship in Germany, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Ronaldo rules out coaching career

“I am proud to represent our colors, it is a dream. That’s why when I leave the national team, I will not tell anyone beforehand. It will be a spontaneous but also a well-thought-out decision.”

But one thing is already clear for Ronaldo: the man who scored 130 goals in 212 international matches and shone at Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United and Real Madrid, among others, does not want to become a coach after the end of his career.

“That was never my wish. I don’t see my future in this area and I think I will be involved in other things than football,” he said. “But only God knows what the future holds.”

Former HSV coach takes over Nigeria national team

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 27, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Nigeria has found a new national coach.

With the German Bruno Labbadia, the position is now held by an experienced Bundesliga coach – for whom this is the first job as a national team coach. He becomes the sixth German coach in the history of the “Super Eagles” and the 37th national coach of Nigeria.

He takes over from Portuguese Jose Peseiro, who resigned as coach after the final defeat in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations against Ivory Coast.

Early World Cup exit looms

But Labbadia and Nigeria have tough weeks and months ahead of them. With just three points from four matches in the World Cup qualifiers, the West African country is in danger of being eliminated early, meaning it is only second to last in the table.

In addition, the qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations is also scheduled for next September, where Nigeria will face Libya, Rwanda and Benin as favourites in Group D. Expectations in Nigeria are high, as numerous stars such as Atalanta’s Lookman, Leverkusen’s Boniface and Napoli striker Osimhen wear the jersey of the “Super Eagles”.

Labbadia was most recently on the sidelines for VfB Stuttgart from December 2022 to April 2023. In his career, the 58-year-old has also coached clubs such as HSV, Hertha BSC and VfL Wolfsburg.

Hasenhüttl criticizes his own fans: “Complete cemetery!”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 25, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Ralph Hasenhüttl was dissatisfied with the support in the stands after the opening defeat in the Bundesliga.

Despite taking the lead at one point, VfL Wolfsburg suffered a narrow 2:3 home defeat against German record champions Bayern Munich (match report >>>).

Shortly after the final whistle, the Austrian expressed criticism of the fans in the stadium on the “Dazn microphone”: “It is only possible together. Sometimes it was just too quiet for me. When my boys throw themselves completely into every duel, when we turn the game around, then there was a brief atmosphere. Then we concede the second goal and then it’s all cemetery again!”

He also stressed: “That can’t be! We have to help the boys who believe in themselves and we have to make the fans believe in us too. We played a great game against a very strong team.” The “Wolves” showed a strong performance, but in the end they didn’t get anything out of it.

Wolfsburg’s next match is on August 31st with the away game against newly promoted Holstein Kiel (from 3.30 p.m. in the LIVE TICKER>>>)

Zeki Amdouni Reflects on Premier League Season: Interview with RTSsport

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 8, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

At 23, Zeki Amdouni moved from FC Basel to Burnley FC and discovered the best championship in the world, the Premier League. The Geneva native gave an interview to RTSsport, during which he looks back on his career and his current season. Find the long version of this meeting in this article.

With 4 goals and an assist in 29 league games, Zeki Amdouni’s first season in the Premier League is not a smooth ride. Burnley are struggling and Amdouni is playing less. The 23-year-old striker has only been started by his coach Vincent Kompany once since February 17. It was against Chelsea on March 30. To add insult to injury, he had to give up his place in the 45th, a collateral victim of the red card received by his teammate Lorenz Assignon.

Meeting with Zeki Amdouni – long version / RTS Sport / 7 min. / yesterday at 7:05 p.m.

Mathieu Germanier met him at his home in Manchester, an hour from Burnley, before the Clarets’ trip to Everton (1-0 defeat on Saturday). “I started against Manchester City, I said to myself ‘I’m there’,” explains the 23-year-old. “I don’t worry about it, I play and I try to play my game. But looking back, my family and my friends who ask me ‘do you notice?’, it’s true that it’s something beautiful .”

“I have a rather atypical and quite crazy career, I was given nothing,” says the Swiss international. “It makes me laugh that people think it’s a tragedy for me to be on the bench of a Premier League club and think that I’m having a bad time. But not at all because it’s just a stage in my career. Having already played 28 matches in the Premier League in my first season, I think it’s a successful challenge.”
