“Diagnosis hits us all hard” – Cologne ⁢Confirms Serious Knee Injury to Timo Hübers

October 26, 2025, 2:21 p.m

Cologne has confirmed that key ⁢defender Timo Hübers sustained‍ a serious knee injury ⁣during Saturday’s match against Borussia Dortmund, sidelining the 29-year-old ⁤for an ‍extended⁢ period.

The ‌injury, occurring ⁢during the 0-1 defeat, is a significant ‌blow to 1. FC Köln. Hübers underwent overnight observation at the MediaPark⁤ Clinic in⁤ Cologne and is scheduled for surgery on Monday. This marks the third serious knee injury⁣ of Hübers’ career, following cruciate ligament tears in 2016 and 2018.

“It was clear from the situation itself ‌that it didn’t mean anything good⁤ for Timo.‍ The diagnosis hits us all hard, especially him. At a young age, he has⁣ fought his way back onto the pitch twice after serious injuries – and⁤ we are ‌sure that he will go his⁤ way this time too,” said sports⁤ director‌ Thomas ⁤Kessler.

Hübers⁣ Injured in Defensive Action

The central defender suffered the injury during an unsuccessful defensive play and was visibly distressed as he was carried off the pitch. Players and ‍staff from both ⁤teams reacted with concern.

“I saw him briefly, he was crying, he was⁣ in pain. he’s just miserable,” coach Lukas Kwasniok stated after the game. “We’re feeling bad, but it’s not about us, it’s about him.”

Due to having weary all substitutions, Cologne was ⁣forced to play the final minutes of the match a man down, ultimately conceding a‌ goal to ‌Maximilian Beier in the sixth ‍minute of stoppage time. “All around a shitty evening,” Cologne goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe summarized.

Werder Bremen mourns: goalkeeping legend Dieter Burdenski dies | football

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Mourning for goalkeeping legend Dieter Burdenski (73). Werder Bremen’s record player died completely unexpectedly in a Bremen hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

After his career, the former national goalkeeper became a successful businessman and until recently worked as a columnist for BILD. On Saturday he was a guest at the Weserstadion as part of the 1999 DFB Cup winners. He stood between the Werder posts for 16 years from 1972 to 1988 and played 444 Bundesliga games. He was in the squad at the 1978 World Cup as well as the 1984 European Championship. In 1988 he celebrated the German championship with Werder – the greatest success of his career.

Another serious loss for Werder after the long-time manager and chairman of the supervisory board Willi Lemke died on August 12th – also completely unexpectedly – at the age of 77.

Werder mourns the loss of legend Burdenski

Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald, President and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SV Werder: “The news of his death shocks us and makes us deeply sad. ‘Budde’ shaped our team for two decades and is undoubtedly one of the greatest Werder players of all time. We all appreciated him very much for his reliability, his always positive attitude to life, his passion for Werder, but also his critical spirit. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”

Klaus Filbry, CEO of SV Werder Bremen: “In the various functions he held at Werder over 50 years, Budde was an important pioneer of the success of our club. In recent years he has been responsible for Werder’s traditional team and, through his tireless efforts, has made them an important figurehead for our club. We are unspeakably sad because with Budde we are not only losing a great Werder player, but also a great person.”

Werder Bremen – Tattoo star Hansen-Aarøen needs more muscles | Sport

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 10, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Isak Hansen-Aarøen (20) is an imposing figure because of his countless tattoos, not because of his body weight.

The Norwegian (1.73 m), who was signed from Manchester United in the winter, is a Scandinavian 67 kg flea. And that is one reason why he does not play a major role at Werder. Three short appearances in the past season, and in the still young current season, despite a good preparation, he only warmed the bench. Or it warmed him.

Professional boss Peter Niemeyer now demands: “He must become even more robust, he needs more physicality in his game.”

Werder Norwegian needs more muscles

Hansen-Aarøen, whose shirt now only says Aarøen, is currently with Norway’s U21 team and is gaining match practice. The attacking midfielder (market value: 1.5 million euros) should soon get match practice in Bremen, too, if he continues to develop on the pitch.

Niemeyer: “Isak is very good in small, tight spaces. But he has to improve when it’s 11 against 11. He has to grow, adapt to Bundesliga football even more and expand his playing style. Then he will develop with us.”

That is the big goal. Because Hansen-Aarøen is considered within the club as one of the players with whom Werder can one day achieve a large transfer revenue.

Niemeyer: “He has an exciting profile and a lot of potential. We have to work together to ensure that he exploits it.”

Player criticism, test defeat: Will Werder Bremen now turn things around? | Sport

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 9, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Do you remember April 14th? Werder were completely crushed in Leverkusen (0:5) and were an unwilling helper at the championship party.

Since then, Bremen have not lost a single competitive match. It is all the more surprising how modest the mood around Werder has been since the good performance against Dortmund (0:0): Player criticism of Ole Werner’s coaching and the defensive transfer policy caused unrest. A few days later, Werder followed up with a poor and unsuccessful test in Münster (2:3), which frustrated the coach. Preparations for the game in Mainz (Sunday, 5:30 p.m.) begin on Tuesday (2:30 p.m.).

Will Werder now manage to turn the mood around?

Professional boss Peter Niemeyer told BILD: “We haven’t lost eight competitive games across the season. There should be a positive mood. The dissonance after the Dortmund game has been worked through. The long weekend without training was also good. I’m optimistic that we’ll start the week with a good feeling and renewed courage.”

Ducksch and Friedl had to report back after criticizing the coach and publicly backtracked. Some professionals (e.g. Grüll, Schmid) are enjoying a change of scenery with the national teams, while the rest were able to relax on the training-free weekend and perhaps get into a more positive mood for the coming weeks.

Incidentally, Keke Topp returned to Bremen early from the DFB U21 team on Monday. He had been hit on the foot during training. However, his appearance in Mainz is not yet over.

Bundesliga: Accident! Coach has to cancel training camp | Sport

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 6, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

While the first matchday has already been completed in the 2nd Bundesliga, the first division teams are still in the middle of their season preparations. This includes VfL Wolfsburg. The Lower Saxony team is currently sweating it out at an Austrian training camp in Schladming.

However, this trip is not off to a good start, as assistant coach Rainer Widmayer (57) had to leave again after a bicycle accident.

According to BILD information, the assistant to head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl (56) lost control of his bike during a bike tour and fell. The former professional (including SSV Ulm) had to be taken to hospital with a blood-stained face.

The assistant coach is not the only injured player at the training camp. New signing Mohamed Amoura (24) has sustained an injury to the medial ligament in his knee. The Algerian’s Bundesliga start on August 25 against record champions Bayern Munich is in jeopardy. The national striker moved from Belgian runners-up Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to the Wolves just a few weeks ago for around 17 million euros.

Amoura is not the only player who is forced to watch. Joakim Maehle (27) was injured in the friendly match against Italian club Como, which ended in a goalless draw. The Danish national defender is out until further notice with ankle problems.

Lukas Nmecha (25) is another prominent absence. The former national striker is once again working on his comeback after a serious thigh injury. His injury record is long: concussion, ankle problems, torn patellar tendon, knee injury. It is still unclear when the 2021 U21 European champion will be able to return to action this time.

Eintracht Frankfurt Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp Expresses Concerns Over Negative Atmosphere as European Cup Places Hang in Balance

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 7, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp recognizes an alarming mood at European Cup contender Eintracht Frankfurt in the final push for the international places. “Somehow there is a very, very negative cloud hanging over us. We were sometimes rightly criticized because the games were simply not nice and the results were not there,” said the 33-year-old goalkeeper on Friday evening on Dazn. The Hessians had previously lost important points in the fight for the Europa League in a 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen.

“It’s incredibly annoying because we actually played a good game. If you only get two points at home against Union and Bremen, there are reasons for that. Maybe it’s deserved in the end,” complained Trapp. With 42 points, Frankfurt is still in sixth place. The remaining games with games against VfB Stuttgart, FC Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen are demanding. “The remaining program is brutal. We still have everything in our own hands,” said Trapp.

Coach Dino Toppmöller also struggled with the draw. “It’s disappointing and frustrating when you don’t come out of a game like this with a win. “We have planned much more,” said the head coach. Almost a week ago, the Hessians missed a home win in a 0-0 draw against 1. FC Union Berlin. The impending failures of Ellyes Shkiri (injured) and Tuta (red card) are further worrying Toppmöller.

Amos Pieper from Bremen was injured again during his comeback

However, the Bremen team were quite happy with their first point win after four defeats in a row with the 1:1. “The way we played speaks for the character of the players and the team. These are not easy weeks. We have to compensate for a lot of personnel issues,” said coach Ole Werner.

And another problem arises on the next matchday in the game at Bayer Leverkusen. Amos Pieper, a professional who had just celebrated his comeback after a break of over six months, was injured. “He took a hit to his ankle and is in pain. He can still go. It’s not like he was on crutches,” said head coach Ole Werner late on Friday evening.

The 26-year-old defensive player, who had to be substituted in the 51st minute, experienced the wild second half, including two dismissals, from outside. Pieper broke his right ankle in October and was out for months. It initially remained unclear whether the injury on Friday evening was related to this. “I can’t say all that yet,” said Werner. (dpa)
