Brussels Airport Arrest Yields 14 Kilograms of Synthetic Drugs
Brussels – A man from Saint-Nicolasโ faces a potentialโ 60-month prison sentence following โhis arrest at Brussels โฃAirport on March 30th with 14โฃ kilograms of synthetic drugs, including amphetamines, ketamine, โขand MDMA. Prosecutors presented evidence in court Thursday suggesting the man transported โdrugsโค on multiple occasions.
Investigators discovered the drugs during a customs inspection of the suspect’s backpack โฃas he prepared to board a flight. The prosecution โขfurther allegesโ the defendantโฃ made threeโฃ prior trips in recent months, notingโ that “Each time, his luggage was heavier at the start than in his return,” indicating potential outbound drug shipments.
The defense argued โfor a suspended sentence to allow the man to retain his employment, claiming he accrued a 25,000 euro debt during the pandemic to “bad people” โคand was coerced intoโ drugโข trafficking to repay it, facing a 500 euro monthly interest โrate. The lawyer โขstated theโ drug transport ceased โupon his client’s arrest.
A judgment is expected on October 6th.
