The government is making drastic cuts in many sectors, but NATO spending will be significantly increased in next year’s budget.

When Finland was about to join NATO, it was estimated that the costs of membership in the alliance would be around 70–100 million per year.

This year, the sum of NATO expenses for the Ministry of Defense and Foreign Affairs alone has been around 100 million euros.

On Tuesday, it was reported in the government’s budget briefing that next year, on top of the corresponding expenses, there will be an additional pot of NATO funding of EUR 67 million, which will finance the alliance’s increasing presence in Finland.

The NATO Land Forces Lower Staff (MCLCC) is being established in Finland.

Iltalehti asked at the press conference on the budget dispute, either the prime minister can tell the public that the NATO ground forces sub-staff will be established in Mikkeli.

On Tuesday, Orpo did not want to say where the subordinate staff will be placed.

– There is no decision about the lower staff. Finland gets a lower staff of the ground forces. Infra, the ability to receive (troops) and related investments must be prepared for the troops.

Iltalehti already reported in April that NATO’s sub-staff is coming to Mikkeli.

According to the Prime Minister, the money will also be allocated to promoting the ability to receive aid from allied countries.

In addition to the sub-staff, the presence of NATO forces in Finland is planned. It is about the so-called forward presence of ground forces (FLF forces). According to Orpo, new infrastructure is being prepared for the troops, among other things.

According to information from Iltalehti, an armored NATO brigade of 4,000–5,000 soldiers is becoming Finland’s protection.

According to the Prime Minister, additional investments are necessary in order for Finland to show its commitment to NATO.

– We are making NATO’s presence in Finland a reality. We will add 67 million to NATO’s presence in Finland, Orpo said.

According to Orpo, the investments are also necessary to build up Finland’s defense at a fast pace, so that everything that Finland wants can be extracted from the union. In practice, this means NATO’s strong commitment to the defense of Finland and NATO against the common enemy, Russia.

The appropriations for the entire defense administration will rise to almost 6.5 billion euros in next year’s budget proposal, which is about half a billion euros more than in this year’s budget.

Katja Ståhl is starting a new phase in her life – “I’m really excited” – 2024-08-29 15:16:50

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 29, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Katja Ståhl continues as Elämäni biisi presenter.

Katja Ståhl continues in the new season song of my life –as host of the program. The program continues on September 7 on Yle TV1. Ståhl has hosted the program since the beginning.

– The best workplace I’ve ever had. And the best program I’ve ever done, Ståhl enthuses.

According to him, the program’s popularity is explained by the fact that all the pieces fall into place.

– There is enough budget here to be able to do every area well. When each worker can trust another worker, it’s a safe feeling that everyone can focus on their own performance, and there’s no need to worry about where this will be solved when there was no money or talent, Ståhl reflects.

The song of my life – program has seen several guests over the years. Among the guests of the upcoming season, Ståhl is especially excited about Juha Miedo. He also reveals who he would like to join the program.

– For a very long time, I hoped for Paavo Väyry to be a guest there, and it came true last season. Now, as I remember, I had hoped for Jare Tiiho, but I don’t hope anymore, I have come up with a new one. I would like Seppo Rädy there, says Ståhl.

Ståhl says that there have never been any difficult situations with the guests during the shooting of the program.

– Yes, there have been people who have come a bit nervous. But when they’ve gotten into that mood, then they’ve suddenly been completely involved, says Ståhl.

New winds

Ståhl will also start new studies in the fall. He starts studying job guidance at the University of Helsinki. He got the idea already in the early 2000s, and he has only been waiting for the moment when he would have enough time and money to start studying.

– Now it felt like it was the moment. I’m really excited. I have studied almost nothing in my life: I have to be motivated to be able to do it. If I’m not enthusiastic, then I can’t get myself into it, says Ståhl.

When it comes to work supervision, Ståhl is particularly fascinated by logic.

– What fascinates me is that we go to the workplace and think about how to get the job done so that people understand each other and who does what and why. You understand what I do and why, and I understand what you do, and there is no conflict. It’s terribly logical. It’s wonderful that you can lighten the whole thing with logical reasoning.

Not for engagement

Katja Ståhl’s life is currently largely spent with dogs and horses. He has competed with his young horse on track obstacles.

– I also breed horses, so there are also foals, Ståhl says.

The presenter’s family includes two adult children. Ståhl divorced her husband when her children were small. He says that he enjoys being alone.

– I don’t have a love life. What now I have dated from time to time. But frankly, I’m not really interested in that. If you were interested, I guess you could look for it and go somewhere. But I’m not interested in going anywhere.

Ståhl doesn’t think he’ll find a partner either.

– You can hardly find it in Alepa in Suvela, and that’s where I go the most, Ståhl laughs.

There have been some dates, however, and Ståhl only has positive things to say about dating partners.

– It’s been really tough. If I see them, it’s nice to see them. But I don’t want to get engaged to anyone, Ståhl states.

He hasn’t had to experience any kind of disaster dating.

– I wonder how people end up like that. I myself already knew from the start that I would go on a date with a really nice guy. I wonder what some people discuss before a date, that it comes as a complete surprise, that the other person is crazy, Ståhl marvels.

The host feels that nothing is missing from his life right now.

– But it’s the same with winning the lottery. I don’t want a lottery win, but if it comes, I won’t miss it, Ståhl states.

Played on stage

Ståhl, who hosts a music program and has worked in record companies for a long time, has also been able to make music in the summer. He was hosting Krapi’s garden party in Tuusula in August.

One of the performers was the artist Arppa aka Aaro Airola, whom Ståhl says he likes very much.

– I got to play with them on stage! I played maracas for two songs and my head felt like exploding because it was so wonderful, Ståhl enthuses.

Ståhl states that if he were to start a band himself, he would play maracas or tambourines.

– Lenni-Kalle Taipale also went on stage with Arpa. Lenni-Kalle said that she wants to be a TET trainee in that band. I was like, I want too, let’s go. We haven’t informed them yet that we will become TET trainees, but we will, Ståhl smiles.

An audio drama is released about Sanna Marin – The director reveals his special observations about the ex-prime minister
 – 2024-08-29 01:43:55

An audio drama about Sanna Marin will be released in September. AOP

About the former prime minister Sanna Marinista38, will soon be published as an audio drama on Yelle. Sanna Marin – millions follow -writer-director of the work Miira Karhula tells Iltalehti that the initiative for the project came from Yle.

The audio drama deals with Marin from both his private life and politics. For the project, Karhula interviewed people who know Marin, whose names he cannot reveal. The project somewhat changed Karhula’s own perception of Marin.

– Now I understand even better why it was very difficult for him to continue in Finnish politics. We had to dive even deeper into the pressure and raw power struggle that has been during his prime ministership, the director tells Iltalehte.

– I understand why it broke him up so much. Maybe I grew to sympathize with the fact that it has been such a hellish place. Yes, they can be quite brutal here too, although it seems that Finnish politics is dull compared to other countries, he adds.

Karhula also had one idea about Marin confirmed through the interviews.

– I already thought when I started this that Sanna Marin is a contradictory type. Based on these interviews, he also seemed like that. There are a lot of different and strong opinions for and against him.

The project somehow changed the director’s perception of Sanna Marin. JOEL MAISALMI

Karhula believes that the conflicting perception is possibly due to the fact that people have known Marin in a different time and in a different role.

– But he definitely also has all those different sides that are extreme. At the same time, he knows how to push both the common interest and his own interest exceptionally strongly, the director reflects.

– I found it interesting that many people said in interviews about Marin: “Why does everyone always want to talk about him, could we sometimes talk about something else?” Next, however, they talked for two hours about Marin. So he is an interesting guy with many sides, he adds.

Karhula believes that Marin has exceptionally extreme sides. REUTERS

In the interviews, Karhula also faced the perception of many that Marin has no friends in the parliament. According to Karhula, some politicians felt that they were good friends with Marin. The interviews made Karhula think about how many people really know Marin very well.

– I haven’t met a single person who claims to know him completely. Many of his childhood and student friends have been left behind. She has a lot of influencer acquaintances these days, but how well do they actually know Sanna? Or is it more of a mutual benefit? Karhula opens his thoughts.

– I got the impression that Sanna Marin wants to control very precisely what is said and thought about her. Sometimes that control can reach quite close, he says.

Marin fell silent

According to Karhula, Marini was asked for an interview for the audio drama, but the ex-prime minister never answered the message.

– His assistant has asked when this will come out, so yes they are aware of this. We have also sent him greetings that he can come and listen to the recordings. But he hasn’t come, says the director.

– Maybe he thinks that if he gave us an interview, we could think that the audio drama is Marin’s claim about the events. I understand that decision, and it has not brought this project down, he analyzed.

The director understands that Sanna Marin did not want to give an interview for the project. Jani Koivukangas

Karhula believes that Marin might find it strange to hear the audio drama version of his thoughts.

– I hope he doesn’t feel bad. This project is not a fan picture of Sanna Marini, but it is not intended to make fun of her either, he emphasizes.

The director also believes that the audio drama will receive a mixed reception from the audience.

– Those who hate Sanna Marini are certainly not satisfied. On the other hand, those who are crazy fans of him think that certain things should not be talked about here.

– We want to tell what we think his journey has looked like and as truthfully as possible, he emphasizes at the end.

Ilta-Sanomat was the first to report on the audio drama about Sanna Marin.

All episodes of the Sanna Marin audio drama can be heard on Yle Areena on Tuesday, October 8.

“It would send the message that terrorism can get results” – 2024-08-26 14:29:46

Criticism of the coalition and the Christian Democrats for the SDP. From the Left Alliance, thank you for SDP’s position.

“It would send the message that terrorism can get results”
 – 2024-08-26 14:29:46

SDP chairman Antti Lindtman demands that Petteri Orpo’s (kok) government take action so that Finland recognizes the state of Palestine. Miia Sirén

The SDP party government’s demand that Finland should take action to recognize Palestine has been both praised and criticized by other parties.

Chairman of SDP Antti Lindtman wrote on Sunday in the message service X that Finland threatens to be on the wrong side of history. Lindtman reminded that more than 140 UN member countries have already recognized the Palestinian state.

– The government should take action on the matter as soon as this fall. Everything possible must be done to end the cycle of violence, Lindtman wrote.

According to Lindtman, the risk of escalation is increasing and therefore the cycle of violence must be stopped immediately.

– A very welcome exit, great, commented the MEP from the Left Alliance Jussi Saramo Opening of SDP.

In the opinion of Tere Sammallahde, a member of parliament from the coalition, the recognition of Palestine gives greater incentives for the continuation of terrorism and war. PASI LEISMA

Sammallahti reviewed

Instead, the Prime Minister’s Party coalition MP Hello Sammallahti asked Lindtman how to break the cycle of violence by rewarding jihadist and anti-Semitic terrorists with their own state. In Sammallahde’s opinion, the recognition of Palestine gives greater incentives for the continuation of terrorism and war.

– What other awards is SDP ready to give to the rapist murderers of Hamas, Sammallahti asked.

Chairman of the parliamentary group of Christian Democrats in the ruling party Peter Östmanin according to, now is not the time to recognize Palestine.

Östman also serves as the chairman of the parliament’s Israel friendship group.

– First, a ceasefire is needed in the region, the hostages must be released, and after that the negotiation processes to promote peace forward. Recognizing the state of Palestine now would send a message that terrorism can achieve results, Östman stated in the press release.

According to Peter Östman, the chairman of the parliamentary group of the Christian Democrats, the Palestinian state can only be created with a mutual agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. Petteri Plasma

“Only by mutual agreement”

According to Östman, the Palestinian state can only be created through a mutual agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, and not through external coercion.

– The two-state model in the region can only be realized in conditions that build trust; not now and not in the future under the leadership of the terrorist organization Hamas. The problem is that the majority of Palestinians also in the West Bank support Hamas’s violence against Israel, Östman pointed out.

According to Östman, it is not possible to negotiate or build cooperation with a country that is openly waging war and pursuing its own interests with its military actions until it stops its attacks. According to him, Hamas and Hezbollah must first stop the terrorist rocket attacks so that Israel does not have to constantly defend itself against the attackers.

– It must also be stated that the Palestinian Authority in its current form does not have the administrative, financial or structural prerequisites to become an independent state, Östman stated.

The government is still not worth it

Sweden has already recognized Palestine in 2014 and Norway announced in May that it would recognize Palestine.

Foreign minister Elina Valtonen (kok) said in an interview with Helsingin Sanomat at the end of May that Finland is not ready to recognize Palestine now. According to Valtonen, Finland prefers to recognize Palestine as part of a process that advances towards a truly peaceful solution for two states.

President of the Republic Alexander Stubb has also said that Finland will at some point recognize the state of Palestine.

– We are not pro-Israel, not pro-Palestine, but pro-peace, Stubb commented, among other things, during his state visit to Estonia in May. According to Stubb, a ceasefire is needed first.

Foreign Minister of the previous government Pekka Haavisto (Vihr), on the other hand, has said that it supports the recognition of Palestine.

Yle asked about the positions of the parliamentary groups on the recognition of Palestine at the end of May.

Chairman of Liike Nyt Harry Harkimon think that Finland should recognize Palestine, the Greens and the Left Alliance should recognize Palestine as well. The center, the coalition and the RKP did not consider the time to be right yet. Basic Finns and Christian Democrats opposed the recognition of Palestine.

In the spring, SDP’s position was even more cautious and that of the chairman of the parliamentary group Tytti Tuppurainen according to the party’s view is that at some point Palestine must be recognized.

This was the biggest surprise of my life – 2024-08-02 07:02:37

Frederik experienced the biggest surprise of his life when he returned home from his travels. Since then, he has remained single.

This was the biggest surprise of my life
 – 2024-08-02 07:02:37

Frederik experienced a severe shock five years ago. PASI LEISMA

Singer Ilkka Sysimetsä aka Frederik, 79, cheerfully answers the phone. The summer has included everything from gigging to camping and daytime coffee.

The artist badly hurt his knee and shoulder when he fell earlier this year. Now the problems are small aches, except for the life left behind.

– Healthy as a goat, he describes his condition.

In the beginning, the pain was such that the singer describes being on tramadol for several months. Lifting weights and tennis are now possible.

– Not Linkka or anything, but longer strain causes pain.

During the call, Frederik thinks that it might be time to invite him to a friend’s summer house. He usually calls before he arrives and asks what he can bring with him.

Daytime coffee club only

Summer life also includes romance. The singer admits that she has had enough of the so-called daytime coffee company. Frederik meets some “old friends” every couple of weeks. Together we enjoy cake and a bun, watch a movie and stay overnight for a day or two.

– Let’s hug and kiss, he quotes the vocabulary of the old folk.

Frederik is not interested in any kind of permanent relationship. Throughout his life, he has had longer relationships. A few years ago, a relationship came to an abrupt end.

– I came home from traveling and my house was empty, the singer reveals.

The girlfriend had decided to disappear completely. The singer admits that he had been away and traveling a lot, and couldn’t spend all the time taking care of the relationship. My partner had complained of loneliness. Still, Frederik believed that the relationship was stable.

When in a relationship, the singer’s style included bringing flowers and gifts. Frederik has also bought diamond rings.

Frederik does not know the reason for the end of the long relationship. Pete Anikari

The end of the relationship was a hard blow.

– He left like a thief. This can happen.

According to his own words, Frederik hasn’t been left before.

– This thing came out of the blue for me.

However, he understands the legalities of the world of relationships.

– If someone doesn’t want to be with me, what can I do about it.

Women visit Frederik this summer as well, but he does not intend to take anyone into his home permanently.

Leaving the mine agreement is in the hands of the ruling coalition – 2024-08-01 17:36:37

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 1, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

In the opinion of Mikko Savola, Member of Parliament for the Center and vice-chairman of the parliament’s defense committee, the withdrawal from the Ottawa agreement must be discussed in connection with the upcoming defense report.

Leaving the mine agreement is in the hands of the ruling coalition
 – 2024-08-01 17:36:37

Mikko Savola has also served as Minister of Defense. Henri Kärkkäinen

Savola reminds that there have been particularly emphatic statements from the ranks of the main government party about the withdrawal from the international agreement banning anti-personnel mines.

– Representative colleague and member of the defense committee Jarno Limnéll has proposed withdrawing from the Ottawa agreement. It has also been supported by other MPs of the coalition. It must be remembered that bringing the matter to the parliament for a decision is completely in the hands of the coalition.

– The coalition has the entire leadership of foreign and security policy. Värisuora has the position of the President of the Republic as well as the portfolios of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Defense. So I ask, do Orpo, Valtonen and Häkkänen intend to bring the government’s motion to withdraw from the Ottawa agreement to parliament? The right place to outline the issue is the defense report that will be considered in the fall, Savola states.

Savola promises to support the proposal to withdraw from the agreement, if such a proposal is brought to parliament.

In Savola’s opinion, joining the Ottawa agreement was a wrong decision at the time.

– The project was driven particularly strongly by the president of the republic at the time Tarja Halonen and the agreement was ratified by the prime minister Jyrki Katainen under the leadership of the (kok) government, says Savola.

At that time, at the end of 2011, Savola himself voted against the ratification of the agreement.

– Having received pioneer education in Keuruu, I wonder about the arguments that were used at that time to give up anti-personnel mines. In Finland, mines were used to block, i.e. to slow down the enemy’s advance, to cause losses and to direct them to more favorable targets for defense. In the Finnish containment, each mine was marked exactly on the terrain and thus clearing them would be possible. Our anti-personnel mines had nothing to do with civilian casualties in third countries. In addition, our clearing pioneer activity is the best in the world.

– Fortunately, the Defense Forces received material to replace the anti-personnel mines at that time. However, even the materials that replace anti-personnel mines do not replace the cheapness and strong deterrence of anti-personnel mines, says Savola.
