los Angeles, CA – โNovember 21, โค2023 – Michaelโฃ MannS โhighly anticipated sequel, Heat 2,โ is set to film 47 days in the Los Angeles region after receiving tax credits through the California Film Incentive program, according to an announcementโข today. The project is among โฃ52โข films selected to receive credits, marking the highest number of titles chosen in a single round of incentives.
The news arrives as Los Angeles film production reached an all-time low during the July-September period,โ according to FilmLA. The California Film Incentive program is designed to โฃbring productions back to theโ state,with director Jake Kasdan โ(Jumanji) stating,”I โฃhave long looked forward to the day when the California โคFilm Incentive would help usโ bring movies โlike this one back โhome – and now that itโ does,I am so grateful that ours โขwill be amongโค the first to take advantage ofโ the โnew program.”
Sony Pictures Entertainment chief executive Tom Rothman added, “Theโ resultant work will bring jobs โคand revenue into theโ stateโค at a much needed time and โคwill helpโ the filmmakers make the vrey โbest film โpossible.”
Beyond Heat 2, 42 self-reliant titles with budgets under $10 million willโ also benefit fromโ the subsidies, includingโข Epiphany (starring Bill Murray and Kristen Wiig), โฃ The Incredible Heist of Hallelujah Jones, Sun Baked, A Tree is Blue, and Nightwatching.
Ellen goldsmith-Vein,a producer on Epiphany and Chairโ of Mayor Karen Bass’ Entertainment industry Council,emphasized the โimportance of state support โคfor filmmakers,saying,”California has been home to my career from โฃthe start,and beingโ able to โmake Epiphany here means I get to work with the best crews in the business while keeping jobs in my โคcommunity.”
A record 51 films were initially approved for credits in March. The current round of incentives is projected toโข generate 511 days of โขfilming outside of the Losโ Angeles region, taking advantage of additional incentives offered in those areas.
