Cremona, Italy – Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca played a key role in Jamie Vardy‘s surprising move to Serie A side Cremonese, personally recommending the club to the veteran striker. Vardy, 37, joined Cremonese on a free transfer this summer after his contract with Leicester City expired.
Maresca, who previously managed Leicester City, maintained contact with Vardy and highlighted the appeal of Cremonese, both as a club and as a city.”I am still in touch with Maresca,” Vardy stated. “He suggested coming here, becuase he knew very well about the stunning Cremona club and city. After the possibility was there, so I decided to join.”
The move marks Vardy’s frist venture outside of English football. He is hoping to replicate the success he found with Leicester City, where he helped propel the club from promotion contenders to Premier League champions in 2016. Maresca’s endorsement proved pivotal in convincing Vardy that Cremonese offered a viable platform to continue his career at the highest level.
