EBU Extends Gymnastics Rights Deal with FIG Through 2028
The European Broadcastingโ Union (EBU) and the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG)โฃ have announced a renewalโ of their exclusiveโค media rights partnership, guaranteeing continued free-to-air coverage of premier gymnastics events across Europe until 2028.
The agreement, extending a decades-long relationship, covers exclusive rights to theโ FIG World Championships in artistic, rhythmic, and trampoline gymnastics. It also includesโ non-exclusive rights โคfor โevents in aerobic, acrobatic, and parkour disciplines. Coverage will beโ available on both linear channels and the Eurovision Sport streaming platform.
This renewal encompassesโค 20 EBU members, including prominentโ broadcasters such as VRT (Belgium), ARD/ZDF โค(Germany), and RAI (Italy). The deal builds on the EBU’s recent extension with European Gymnastics in May, solidifying its position as a central broadcastโ partner for the sportโข in Europe.
“This โongoing collaboration with the EBU demonstrates our shared commitment to strengtheningโค the presence of gymnastics across Europe and โคplays a key role in its growth,” said FIG president Morinari Watanabe.โ “Together, we โcontinue to connect with new audiences, inspire the next โgeneration โขof fans, and deliver high-quality coverage to dedicated supporters of โthe sport.”
Glen Killane, executiveโ director of EBUโฃ Sport, added:โ “This renewed agreement reflects the strength and continuity of our โฃpartnership with FIG and our shared commitment to making world-class gymnastics accessibleโฃ to everyone. Throughโข the collective power and reach of public service media, we’re not only showcasing the sport’s most significant moments, but also inspiring the next generation of athletes and fans.”
The partnership’s first event under the new agreement will be the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, fromโค October 19th to 25th, broadcastโข across the linear andโข digital channels of 19 EBU members.
The previous agreement between the EBU and โขFIG expired โat the end of 2024. โขthis latest extension follows the EBU โขsecuring pan-continental rights to the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Paralympic gamesโ earlier this week.
