“Partnering with Kynisca underlines our shared, unwavering commitment to building platforms that showcase the pinnacle of women’s football. Fifa would like to express our gratitude to Michele Kang, a true pioneer of the women’s game, for her support of this game-changing competition.”

DAZN to Broadcast FIFA women’s Champions Cup Globally, Boosting Women’s Football Accessibility

published: ⁤2026/01/23 08:33:20

The inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup is ⁢set to reach a global audience thanks to a comprehensive broadcast deal⁤ spearheaded by DAZN. With the ⁣tournament kicking off later this month, FIFA ‌has confirmed broadcasting partnerships that will make the competition accessible to fans⁢ worldwide, with DAZN offering free-to-air ⁢coverage in most territories. This move signifies a pivotal⁢ moment for women’s‍ club football, aiming to elevate its profile and reach ⁣new ⁢viewers.

A Global Broadcast Network

DAZN will be the primary broadcaster for the FIFA Women’s ⁤Champions Cup, providing free-to-air coverage in the majority of countries. This decision⁢ by FIFA and DAZN underscores⁤ a commitment to making ‍women’s football accessible to a broader audience. Exceptions ‌to the free-to-air coverage include China and the home markets⁤ of the four participating teams – Arsenal (England), ASFAR (Morocco), Corinthians (Brazil), and gotham FC ⁤(US).

To ensure comprehensive⁢ coverage within key markets, FIFA has secured additional partnerships:

  • Sky Sports (UK & Ireland): Will broadcast⁢ the tournament in the United⁣ Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
  • CazeTV (Brazil): Will ⁣provide coverage specifically for the ⁣Brazilian⁤ audience.
  • Moroccan National Broadcaster: Ensuring the competition is accessible‍ to fans within⁤ Morocco.
  • DAZN⁢ (USA): Securing the⁤ rights⁤ to ⁢broadcast the semi-finals within⁣ the ⁣United States.

The Meaning of Free-to-Air Coverage

The decision to primarily offer free-to-air coverage is a⁢ meaningful ⁤step in promoting‍ the growth of women’s football. Traditionally, ⁣women’s sports have faced challenges in securing prominent ⁢broadcasting slots. By removing paywall barriers,‍ DAZN and⁣ FIFA are actively working ‍to increase viewership‍ and attract new fans. This accessibility is expected⁤ to foster greater engagement and support for ‍the participating clubs and players.

A Late Surge in Broadcast Agreements

While the broadcast deals are now⁤ in place, FIFA reportedly faced challenges securing partnerships in the‌ lead-up⁣ to the tournament. Rather than a customary ‍bidding process,FIFA directly approached key broadcasters, encountering a somewhat‍ muted‌ initial response.⁢ This ‍ultimately⁤ led ‍to DAZN stepping in to guarantee ⁣widespread coverage, a pattern seen⁢ previously⁤ with the expanded‌ FIFA Club World Cup. According to ‍Sportcal, this is the second instance‌ of DAZN⁢ filling a broadcasting gap for a new⁤ FIFA club competition following a $1 billion deal ‌for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Statements from Key ‌figures

Jill Ellis, FIFA’s Chief Football Officer, emphasized the importance of ⁤the tournament, stating, “With world-class players, iconic⁢ clubs and a truly⁣ global stage, the FIFA Women’s‍ Champions Cup marks a defining moment for women’s club football.” She further highlighted the crucial role of broadcasting partners in showcasing the event to a global audience.

Shay Segev, DAZN Group ‍CEO, ⁤echoed this sentiment, adding, “DAZN and FIFA share a vision to make football accessible and inclusive for fans everywhere. By ‍offering free access to⁤ the tournament, DAZN is breaking down barriers and⁣ ensuring that the ‍best of women’s football reaches the widest possible audience.”

What is the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup?

The ⁢FIFA Women’s Champions ⁣Cup is a new, ⁢prestigious club competition ⁣featuring⁣ the champions from each of FIFA’s ⁤six continental confederations.⁤ The inaugural edition will be held in London with a four-team format consisting of two semi-finals, ‍a final, and a third-place playoff.⁣ The participating teams—Arsenal (England), ‍ASFAR (Morocco), Corinthians (Brazil), and Gotham FC (US)—represent a diverse range of footballing nations and promise a highly competitive tournament.

Looking Ahead

The FIFA Women’s Champions Cup represents a significant investment in the future of women’s⁢ club football. The widespread broadcasting coverage, powered by DAZN and its partners, is a crucial step towards increasing the sport’s visibility and attracting a larger fanbase. As the tournament unfolds, it is indeed poised to captivate⁢ audiences and inspire a new generation of ‌female footballers and fans alike. The success of this ‍initial event will likely shape the format and scope of future editions, further ‍solidifying its position as ⁤a premier competition in the global football calendar.
