BMW โXM Crowned โWorld’s Best-Selling “รber SUV”โ despite Controversialโ Design
Munich, Germany – The BMW XM, aโข model โoften met โขwith criticism, ledโ the global market in sales for high-performance, luxury SUVs in 2023, accordingโ to โdata โfrom Jato Dynamics. A totalโข of 8,100 units were sold, representing โคa 14% year-over-year increase. This surprising success comes despite a โprice point of around 5 million Czech โขcrownsโ (approximatelyโ $215,000 USD) for the base โmodel andโ positions the โฃXM as the dominant force โin aโค segment populated by โขultra-luxury brands.
The โคXM’s sales advantage โขisn’t necessarily driven by worldwide acclaim for โits styling, but rather โby its โcomparatively โaccessibleโข price within theโค “รber SUV” category. Competitors like the Lamborghini Urus (5,600 units sold), Ferrari Purosangue (2,250 units), โคAstonโ Martin DBX (2,050 units), โand Chinese newcomer Mheroโฃ 917 (1,200 units) all carry โคsubstantially โhigher price tags – the Purosangue starting โคaround 10 million โคcrowns. This price differenceโฃ allows the XM to capture a largerโค volume of sales, solidifyingโข its position asโ the โsegment leader.
The ranking of the top five best-selling models โขis as follows:
- BMW โXM – 8,100 units (14% year-over-year change)
- Lamborghini Urus โ- 5,600 โคunits (6% year-over-year change)
- Ferrari โPurosangue – 2,250 unitsโฃ (840%โ year-over-year change)
- Astonโค Martin DBX – 2,050 units (-24% year-over-year change)
- Mhero 917 – 1,200 units (107% year-over-year change)
While โsome industry observers note the absence of โคmodels like theโ Audi RS Q8, BMWโ X5/X6 M, Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, and โRange Rover Sport from thisโ ranking, the data focuses specifically on vehicles marketed as dedicated “sports cars” within theโ high-performance โขSUV segment, excluding more conventional performance โvariants.Due toโฃ its sales success, BMW does not currently foresee a direct successor to the โXM.
