Oregon officials Protest โFederal โDeployment of California national Guard
Portland, Ore. – Oregonโค Governor Tina Kotek, Attorney General Danโ rayfield, adn Portland Mayor Keith Wilsonโฃ have voiced strong oppositionโฃ to the recent deployment of approximatelyโค 101 California National Guard members to oregon. Officials state the deployment occurred withoutโ prior notification and โฃpossiblyโค circumvents a recent federal court ruling. Additional troops are expected to arrive Sunday.
Governor Kotek asserted that military intervention is unneeded, stating, “There is noโ insurrection in Portland. No threat to national security.” She underscored the importance of allowing peaceful demonstrations against actions by โคtheโข federal administration she deems unlawful.
Attorney โคGeneral Rayfield criticized the deployment as lacking factual basis orโ legal authority, accusing the President of attempting toโ deploy military forces inโข American cities without justification. โHe affirmed that legal action is being pursued toโค holdโค the administration accountable andโค safeguard the rights of Oregon residents.
Mayor Wilsonโค pointed to a federal judge’s decision that previously blocked theโข mobilization of oregon National Guardโฃ troops, characterizing the current federal actions โas “unlawful and unjustified.” He called on federal leadership to adhere to the court’s ruling โคand halt any deploymentsโฃ that contradict it, reaffirming Portland’s dedication to peaceful protest and due process.
U.S. Senator Ronโ Wyden (D-Ore.) also expressed his disapproval via social media, questioning the administration’s understanding ofโ the court’sโค decision that found its initial justification for deployment โข”simply untethered to the facts.”
