TALLAHASSEE, FL – Progressive Direct Insurance Co. โhas agreed to a $500,000 settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging violations of Florida’s debtโค collection laws.The suit centered on claims that Progressive sent debtโ collection emails to Florida residents during prohibited โฃlate-night hours.
The settlement will benefit Florida residents who received debt collection emailsโ from Progressive โbetween 9 p.m. and 8โข a.m. local time from July 2, 2022, through May 16, 2025.Plaintiffs alleged these emails violated the Florida Consumer Collectionโ Practices Act (FCCPA).
Progressive, a major insurance provider offeringโฃ a range of coverageโ including auto, โmotorcycle, and home insurance, has not admittedโฃ any wrongdoing as part of the agreement. However, โthe company opted to settle the allegations to avoidโ further litigation.
