FCC Construction Wins $699 Million Contract โto Extend New โคYork City Subway to eastโข Harlem
Newโค York, NY – FCC Construction has been awarded a $699 million contract toโ extendโฃ the โฃSecond avenue Subwayโฃ line in New York City, bringing the metroโฃ deeper into Manhattan’s East Harlem neighborhood. The project, announced today, will significantly improve transportation access for over 300,000โฃ dailyโ passengers and generate thousands of jobs โคover the next four years, accordingโค to the Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA).
The expansion encompasses โคthe construction of a new stationโข between 116th and 125th Streets, converting a pre-existing 762-meter tunnel built in the โ1970s for โthis purpose. Itโ also includes the drilling โคof aโ 2,560-meter tunnel to Malcolm X Boulevard and the excavation โขof โขa new station at 125th Street. โฃ East Harlem has long awaited improvements to โits transport infrastructure, as highlighted by New โขYork Governor Kathy Hochul.
This โproject is part of a โlarger $6.99 billionโข investment โplan aimedโ at modernizing โand expanding New York โCity’s public transportationโค network. FCC Construction โขwill utilize two variable density tunnel boring machines manufactured in Germany, capable ofโข navigating both soft โฃsoil andโข hard rock, to ensure efficient and precise construction.
