Salzburg challenged in top match at LASK before CL playoff

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 16, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

It is an important dress rehearsal for both teams. Vice-champion Red Bull Salzburg will be visiting LASK on Saturday (from 7:30 p.m. in the LIVE ticker >>>) in the highlight of the 3rd round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga.

The Bulls want to take their recent momentum into the play-off for a place in the Champions League against Dynamo Kiev. The first leg will take place on Wednesday in Lublin (Poland). In the next two weeks, LASK will play against FCSB Bucharest for a place in the group stage of the Europa League.

After two rounds, Salzburg are the only team to lead the league with the maximum number of points. The goal difference is 8:3. In five competitive matches under new coach Pepijn Lijnders, they have not lost a single game – but have also conceded seven goals. The Bulls only kept a clean sheet in the cup opener against regional league team FC Dornbirn. In the Champions League qualifiers, they had to worry about promotion in the return match against Twente Enschede (3:3) despite an outstanding first half.

Lijnders warned about LASK: “They will make life difficult for us”

“The game at Twente was important because it showed us that we can play our football away from home in front of a large crowd and fight passionately for a result,” explained Lijnders.

This experience will probably also be needed against LASK. The Linz team recently suffered a somewhat surprising 2-1 defeat at home against Altach. Lijnders: “They will definitely want to show a reaction against us. They have a number of really good players who will certainly make life very difficult for us. We have to be prepared for that.”

Salzburg beat city rivals Blau-Weiß Linz 5-1 at home last week. In the absence of the injured Hendry Blank and Oumar Solet, who is willing to move, Samson Baidoo and Kamil Piatkowski are likely to form the central defence against LASK.

Lijnders will rotate a little in the offensive after the intensive performance in the Netherlands.

LASK defeat in Altach “maybe good”

Last season, LASK won two of four league duels with Salzburg. The Linz team had never managed that before in Salzburg’s Red Bull era (since 2005). A 1-0 away win in October was followed by a 3-1 home victory in April in the first appearance under coach Thomas Darazs. Striker Marin Ljubicic was the celebrated hero with three goals.

At the end of the season, however, the Linz team suffered a resounding 1:7 defeat in Wals-Siezenheim in May.

“We expect a very demanding game against a team that claims to be the best in Austria,” said Darazs. He did not want to overestimate his own setback against Altach in view of a strong first half. He also tried to take something positive from the defeat. “It was perhaps a good sign for the rest of the season.”

LASK transfer coup Boateng ahead of possible debut

They won’t have the 80 percent ball possession they had against Vorarlberg against the “clear favorites” from Salzburg. “The game will give us a good report on where we are in our development,” said Darazs. “We feel well prepared and are approaching this big task with confidence.”

The opponent’s approach has changed under Lijnders. “In the long term, they are a very complicated team to play against. But they are not yet as stable as they might be in a few months,” said Darazs.

In addition to his long-term injuries, he will also have to do without Valon Berisha. According to Darazs, the midfield veteran has a slight heel injury and will miss the duel with his former club.

Former DFB team defender Jerome Boateng could make his debut. “He certainly hasn’t played 90 or 45 minutes yet. If we need him, he’s ready to help us in the end,” said Darazs.

By Friday afternoon, 13,500 tickets had been sold. “We need the fans behind us. If everyone joins in, then we’re a really great club and a fortress,” said midfielder Sascha Horvath. Together, we’ll be celebrating three points at the end.

Salzburg challenged against “feared opponent” Blau-Weiß Linz

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 10, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Red Bull Salzburg will face “bogey team” Blau-Weiß Linz on Saturday (7.30 p.m.) in its first home game of the still young Bundesliga season.

The runner-up is clearly the favorite, but last season the Linz team, as a newly promoted team, achieved something completely unexpected: a 1-0 win against the “Bulls” and a 1-1 draw at home.

Salzburg is therefore warned. “The boys don’t need much motivation,” said RBS coach Pepijn Lijnders. “They want to show a reaction.”

Salzburg come with tailwind

Salzburg have started the season well under their new coach. They have won three of their first three competitive matches in the cup, the league and the Champions League qualifier against Twente Enschede.

They want to maintain this flawlessness against the blue and whites. “It is important for us to win. We know their strengths, they counter quickly, we have to be ready for that. We respect the opponent just as much as Twente and have to approach the matter with focus,” explained Lijnders.

The Dutchman, who has already lost important players such as Karim Konate, Fernando and Hendry Blank due to injury at the start of the season, was impressed by his team’s first performances.

Liners employ geese Frame

Regular and substitute players have been convincing so far. “We have to use the power of our squad. You start with eleven, but five come in. Everyone is responsible for the end result.”

“It’s not so important who starts, but the mentality that they are always ready, no matter when they play. It’s a good sign if the style and quality stay the same. That’s been the case so far.”

With a busy schedule, he needs the entire squad. “Everyone is important. That also brings freshness because not everyone has to play the whole game,” said Lijnders.

Kjaergaard with self-confidence

Kamil Piatkowski could replace Blank in central defense against Linz. “He’s getting better and better, developing. Now he might have to be ready to start,” the coach expected.

Maurits Kjaergaard wants to build on his performance in the CL qualifiers, the double goalscorer against Twente does not see the Upper Austrians as a bogey team.

“What happened last season is no longer important. What is more important is that we are ready on Saturday. We definitely want to get the next win,” said the 21-year-old Dane.

Blue-White believes in chance

Linz travels to the former series champions after a successful start to the season. They picked up three points a week ago with a 1-0 win against Austria Vienna.

“With the home win behind us, we are traveling to Salzburg with a very good feeling and believe in our small chance there too,” said coach Gerald Scheiblehner, who is unable to play striker Joao Luiz (Achilles tendon) and defender Fabio Strauß (shoulder injury).

Like last year, Blau-Weiß wants to surprise Salzburg, but Scheiblehner sees the opponent under Lijnders again on the upswing.

“Those responsible in Salzburg have managed to bring positive energy back into the club within a very short space of time. We have a huge challenge ahead of us.”

“It was a clear penalty”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 3, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

GAK is back in the Bundesliga!

However, the Styrian team was unable to gain a point in their long-awaited comeback, and in the end they had to admit defeat to Red Bull Salzburg with 2:3.

“I’m really sad about the point,” GAK coach Gernot Messner admits frankly.

His team fought back after an early 0-2 shock with goals from Michael Lang and Romeo Vucic. A handball penalty from Karim Konate shortly before half-time finally decided the game in Salzburg’s favor after a VAR check.

“It was amazing how the team came back. During the break we knew that if we could hold on to the score for a long time, we would get our chances at the end. Unfortunately, we were unable to take advantage of the situations. But if you make Salzburg sweat in the last few minutes, you deserve the 3:3,” said Messner.

Messner: “Then it’s 3:3”

(Text continues below the video)

A scene that could perhaps have resulted in the 3:3 is being discussed in particular in the Graz camp.

In the 70th minute, Frieser went down in a duel with Dedic in the penalty area – GAK loudly demanded a penalty. However, referee Julian Weinberger’s whistle remained silent. Two minutes later, the ball landed in the goal after a corner, but the supposed 3:3 did not count due to an offside position.

“It’s something that can be hotly debated,” says captain Marco Perchtold about the penalty scene.

For his coach, the discussion is not even an issue: “For me it was a clear penalty. Then the score is 3:3.”

In return, Messner also admits that his team did not take advantage of other opportunities that presented themselves. “That’s why this (result; note) hurts. It’s not like we lost 2:3 by luck.”

These new signings are intended to keep GAK in the Bundesliga
