beijing โ- Russian President Vladimir Putin, ahead of a state visit to China, has pledged to strengthen โฃstrategic cooperation with โthe country and โcriticized what he called “attempts to distort” World War II history.
Putin’s four-day trip includes attendance at the Shanghai cooperation Organisation (SCO)โข summit in โฃTianjin on Sunday and โฃbilateral talks with โChinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Tuesday, according to the Kremlin,โ which described the visit as “absolutely unprecedented.”
on Wednesday, putin will be the โguest of honor at China’s World War II Victory Day parade in Tiananmen square, seated to the right of Xi, the Kremlin stated.
In a recent interview with Xinhua, published Saturday, โPutin emphasized the โฃclose relationship between Russiaโค and China, anticipating it will โขbe a central topic during โคhisโข discussions with Xi.โฃ “I look forward to in-depth โdiscussions with President Xi Jinping on all aspects of ourโข bilateral agenda, including political and security cooperation, and alsoโฃ economic,โ cultural and humanitarian ties. And, as always, we willโฃ exchange views โon โคpressing regional and international issues,” Putin told the Chineseโ state โขnews agency.
Putin also stated that Russia โคand China share a “common stand against discriminatory sanctions,” a likely allusion โขto Western trade restrictions and economic penalties levied following Russia’sโ invasion of Ukraine โขin early 2022.
