Maduro Open to Direct Talks with Trump Following Former โขPresident’sโค Signals
Venezuelan President Nicolรกs Maduro stated Monday heโ is prepared to engage in “face-to-face” discussions with former U.S. President Donald Trump, responding to Trump’s recent openness to dialog with the Venezuelan leader.
Addressing inquiries about โTrump’s commentsโ regardingโ potential “discussions” between the two countries, Maduro asserted, “whoeverโข wants โฃtoโ talkโ to Venezuela will talk face toโฃ face, face to face, without any problem,” โas reported on his weekly program With Maduro+, broadcast โฃby Venezolana de Televisiรณnโฃ (VTV). This statement comes amidst a U.S. military deployment in the Caribbean Sea, which Caracas views as a “threat.”
“Whoever wants โขto dialogue will always find in us people of their word, decent people and people with โฃexperience to lead Venezuela,” Maduro added. He emphasized that dialogue is the preferred method โคfor resolving issues, stating, “only thru diplomacyโ should free countries and governments beโ understood, and only through dialogue should common points be โsought on issues of โคmutual interest,” aโค position he described as “invariable” โfor hisโข governance.
Though, Maduro drew a firm line, stating that โฃ”what cannot be allowed” is “that the Venezuelan โขpeople be bombed and massacred.” He further argued that “Dialogue is the way to seek truth and peace” and “firmly questioned the threat ofโ the โฃuse of โforce or the use of forceโ to impose rules in relations between countries.”
Trump, speaking Mondayโ from the Oval Office, reiterated thatโ he is not ruling out any options regarding potential military intervention in Venezuela, while โalso โขexpressing a willingness to talk with Maduro. He stated, “I’m not ruling anything out, we just have to โขtake care of Venezuela.” โฃ
The former President also criticized Maduro’s government, claiming it “has not been good to theโค Unitedโข States”โ and accusing โฃit of sending members of โthe Tren de โAragua gang to the U.S.
Trump initially indicated on Sunday that “there could be discussions” withโข Maduro “asโ Venezuela wants to talk,” and on Friday revealed he had made a determination regarding measures to implement concerning Venezuela, withoutโค providing specifics.
Together, theโ U.S. State โDepartment announced on Sunday it willโข designate โฃthe Cartel of the Suns as a foreign terroristโฃ organization (FTO)โฃ effective November 24, linking the groupโค to Maduro’sโค government. Caracas has dismissed this designation as “an invention.” Maduro โฃreferenced a letter โhe sent to Trump on September 6, though did not elaborate on its contents.
