Liverpoolโค Shift Stance on January Transfers, โขEye ยฃ70m Sporting Lisbon Defender
Liverpool are now considering activity in the January transfer window, โขa change from their previous position, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. This comes amid a challengingโ start to the season for the Reds, prompting aโ re-evaluation of theirโข squad needs.
Initially content with theirโ significant summer investment, Liverpool had indicated they were unlikely to pursue โfurther signings. Though, after more than three โฃmonths of theโ season, and withโ the team “doing โvery badly,” the club is internally discussing the possibility of adding at least oneโ player.
Romano revealed the โshiftโฃ in stance on the Here We Go Podcast, โstating, “I think โคit’s a possibility [that Liverpool make a signing in January]. It’s something that, maybe if you ask me this question in September or earlyโข October, the answer was probably Liverpool didn’t want to do anything โฃelseโฆ Now obviously is already more than three months into the season. Liverpool are doing very badly and so they are considering the possibility of entering into the January transfer window with some sort ofโ activity.”
The potential for reinforcements coincides with reports โฃfrom F365 that Liverpool ‘want to finaliseโ a deal’ for Sporting Lisbon’s Gonรงalo Inรกcio, who has a ยฃ70m release clause in his contract. Theโค report cites Liverpool’s “defensive problems” โขas the driving force behind their โฃinterest.
Romano emphasized โขthat anyโค decision regarding specific โpositions will depend on theโ coming weeks, factoringโ in injuries, market opportunities, and overall team performance. “We will โsee about the positions because this could depend on the next weeksโฆ It โขmight take some time, someโฃ weeks, to โdecide maybe whichโ position they want to cover,” he said.
he concluded,โ “But Liverpool start considering internally the possibility to add maybe โoneโข player in the January โtransfer window and again, based on injuries, based on opportunities, based on the market, we will see what they want to do.”
