Senate confirms John Jovanovic as President and โขChairman of US Export-Import Bank
WASHINGTONโค D.C. – The U.S. โSenate on September 18 confirmed John Jovanovic as the next President and Chairman โคof the Export-import Bank ofโ the United States (US Exim), solidifyingโ a key appointment by theโ Trump management. The vote was 51-47,โ falling along partyโค lines.
Jovanovic, nominated by President Trump โคin March, will lead the agency responsible for financing U.S.โข exports and supporting American jobs. He has pledged aโ “bold new era” โคfor the bank, focused on prioritizing Americanโ industry and ensuringโ fair treatment for U.S. companies globally. “Our mission is clear: more exports, more jobs, a stronger โAmerica. Now โlet’s get too work,” Jovanovic stated in a videoโ releasedโข September 19.
Prior to his appointment, Jovanovic served as Chief โStrategy Officer at Asplundhโ Tree Expert until July. His previous experience includes roles at Nova Fleet, Mercuria, and โtheโ U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), where he was a Managing Director for the Western Balkans from September 2020 to March 2021.
In โคa statement last week, Jovanovic outlined his vision for Exim, promising to “move faster, deliver โsmarter, and ensure US workers never fight โขwith one hand tied behind their back.” He emphasized collaboration with the โAdministration, Congress, and the private sector.
Jovanovic succeeds interim โคchair spencer Bachus, who โtook the helm following Reta Jo Lewis’ departure in January. Under Bachus’ leadership, the agency has continued to operate, recently approving $4.7 billion in financing for a Mozambique LNG project – a decision currently facing legal challenges – โคand lifting restrictions on support โคfor coal-firedโค power projects.
Jovanovic is married to Daphne Oz, daughter โof television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz, a supporter of President Trump who currently serves as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
