ISTANBUL – Today marks the 14th anniversary of the death of Kaşif Kozinoğlu, a former Turkish intelligence operative (MİT) who died of a heart attack in Marmara Prison on November 12, 2011, just days before his scheduled release. Kozinoğlu had been arrested in connection with the alleged FETO-linked “Ergenekon” conspiracy. Posthumously published notes from his detention, compiled by journalist Ergün Gedek as “Secrets That Explorer Kozinoğlu Did Not take to the Grave,” reveal his stark assessments of regional geopolitics, notably concerning Israel’s long-term strategy in Northern Iraq.
Kozinoğlu’s writings, recently resurfaced by Odatv.com, allege Israel has exerted control over Northern Iraq since the 1960s. He wrote, “Israel has taken control of Northern Iraq since the 1960s!” and cautioned that Israel “should be watched closely,” asserting a missile shield would not deter its ambitions.
The notes also contain critical observations about Israel’s relationship with the United States, claiming Israel has even ”challenged the United States when necessary.” Kozinoğlu further alleged the existence of Israeli influence within Turkey’s Southeast and Black Sea regions, suggesting scrutiny of prominent Istanbul businessmen linked to Masonic and Rotary organizations during economic downturns.
beyond Israel, Kozinoğlu expressed distrust of Western powers, specifically the United Kingdom and the United States, accusing them of exploitative imperial tactics. He claimed the UK utilizes a deceptive public image while pursuing self-interest, and questioned the possibility of genuine alliance with imperial powers, stating, “They use you and leave you behind.” He also suggested the US and UK could have influenced the UN report on the Mavi Marmara incident if they had the will.
