Government Intervention Drives Notable Drop in Riceโค Prices Across Indonesia
Jakarta, Indonesia – September 9, 2025 – โฃA concerted โeffort byโฃ the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of โฃHome Affairs, and Bulog (the Indonesian State Logistics Agency) hasโ resulted in a substantial reduction inโ riceโ prices nationwide thruโ large-scale market operations, officials โขannounced โtoday.Ministerโ ofโ Agriculture Andi โฃAmranโฃ Sulaiman emphasized โขthe government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring foodโ availability at โaffordable prices. A key component of this strategy has been the widespread distribution of rice supply and food prices (SPHP), which has demonstrably lowered costs โคfor consumers.
“this market operation is a concrete manifestation of the government’s presence toโข protect the peopel,” stated Amran. “We want to ensure that rice is โavailable enough, โฃprices are stable, and the welfare of farmers โฃare maintained. therefore, we will continue this intervention consistently.”
data from the โคCentral Statistics Agency (BPS) illustrates the impact of these โคefforts. While 214 districts/cities still experienced rising rice prices in the lastโข week of august 2025, that numberโฃ plummeted to โข100 โdistricts/cities in the โfirst โweek of September. Concurrently, the number of districts/cities reporting price โค declines increased fromโ 58 to 105.
Minister of Home Affairs โTito Karnavian lauded the Ministry โฃof โคAgriculture’s actionsโข during an inflation โcontrol coordination meeting this morning. “This phenomenon โrarely occurs in the โคlast two years,” Karnavian โฃnoted. “Data shows government intervention, especially market operations held by the โMinistry of Agriculture together โคwith bulog, โsucceededโข in stabilizing theโฃ price of rice.”
Beyond market operations, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bulog conducted a cheap foodโค movement (Gerakan Pangan Murah – GPM) in 7,285 sub-districts on August 30, 2025, coinciding with Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations. This initiative aimed to bolster purchasing power and โฃcontrol inflation.
Ministers amran Sulaiman and Karnavian personally visited marketsโฃ in Palembang to oversee the smooth distributionโข of SPHP rice and ensure public access to โคaffordable prices.According to BPS Head Amalia Adinegar Widyasanti, rice prices in zones 1 โคandโ 2 are now under control, with the highest retail price (HET) set at Rp 13,500/kg for medium โrice and Rp 14,900/kg โขfor premium rice. Zone 3 remains a priority for continuedโ intervention.
The Ministryโค of Agriculture has pledged to strengthen collaboration โwith the Nationalโฃ Food Agency, Bulog, and regional governments โขto maintain โฃrice price stability across all regions.
“We will โnot stopโฃ before โคthe price is really stable in all zones.โข Thisโฃ is โour commitment for the people,” Amran affirmed.
